I am......
1. also Joe
2. NY'er
3. Long Islander
4. Planning a move to DE.
Amazing how many LI'ers are making the move. But after being a NY'er for 56 years (39 in NYC)....I can't say I'm surprised. I have a few family issues that still have to be finalized before I can make the move, but it's getting closer. My son lives in DC, so I make it a plan to always stop and check out different things in DE on my trips down to see him. In fact this past Easter weekend I did exactly that. We know exactly (within a few blocks) of where we are going to live, so we stopped, parked and walked around the neighborhood for an hour or so and still love it...so we know we found the right spot (in Newark). We will also go back this summer and spend some time there....maybe we will be ready to make the move by then....but either way it's something to look forward to. NY is not for me anymore. I hate it now as much as I used to love it.

Like u, I was a city guy(Queens) till I moved to LI at 32. There are so many reasons to leave and only a dwindling few to stay. We have, for some time, planned on Delaware and are ramping up our search activities. If the old neighborhood was the way it used to be, I would probably stay(then again, I would never have left in the first place). I just hope all the NY/NJ transplants do not radically change the charm that makes Delaware a place we all want to come to. I hope to leave my NY ways behind and begin a Delaware lifestyle.

There has been a very large influx in the Delaware population of people from many States, most probably trying to escape tax burdens etc. of where they came from, I agree with posts that services are being strained in the 1st State. Nothing stays the same, so families that have long roots here from back to the late 1940's/early 1950's may not like what they are seeing. IMO people who have spent almost their entire life elsewhere & come to Delaware cold turkey will change the State from what is was!

I unfortunately have to agree. I have visited De/Md for over 30 yrs. and can see the changes myself. AFTER we resettle, I plan to start a close the border movement.

Nothing remains the same........recall if you will, fondly, that no doubt your parents told you they walked to school both ways all up hill!!!!

Whenever Dh and I head to LI we have to decide enroute which route. GW or Verrazano. The last trip, Staten Island came up the winner and we came up the loser. That said, we come around the loop off the bridge and merge on to the Belt and dh announces "Oh boy, I better put my NY on"!!! That was a defining moment as we are so relaxed here.

When we come home from down yonder, we know, as we hit the first Belt Pkwy pothole, we are not in Kansas anymore!
