denver34 - we are renting long-term in Lewes through vrbo.com (vacation rental by owner). We are having a home built nearby and due to the particulars of our selling our current home, needed a temporary set-up till construction is finished. We have rented through this organization many times in several different states and have had positive experiences every time. The key is to read reviews and ask a lot of questions. I believe they have cross-listings with homeaway.com and cyber rentals. You can filter your choices by house size, price, location, even pet-friendly. We prefer to go through this organization than to go through a local broker. Good luck!

LIttle eggplant (love your screen name!)

How can one find a long-term (a year?) rental on vrbo when there's no search option for a duration longer than 8 weeks? All of the listings I see on that site are weekly rentals (I look on it for vacations and it's great). Occasionally there's a price for a full month but very rarely. Great option for vacations, but not sure it's useful for a lease or long-term rental in a relocation situation. Tell us more!

hello Sunday1,

We were able to secure our condo here in Lewes for five and a half months very easily through vrbo. In the upper right hand corner of the listing you are interested in is a box called View Calendar. When you click that, a whole year's worth of months pops up with dates blackened out which are taken (actually "reddened" out!). For instance our condo shows its calendar through May of 2012. You are right in saying the usual rates show weekly or sometimes monthly. Many will say long term available. You just have to contact the owner of the listing you are interested in and ask if they do long term. We were fortunate in asking this past January and gettiing Feb through June as very few people want to rent in the winter, although our rates will go up for the last part of our rental which goes into July. The increase is a small matter when we need such a long term rental plus have a place which accepts pets as this one does. Even if a listing shows only weekly rates, if you are looking far into the future, meaning after the summer season here, it never hurts to ask the owner about long term. Off season you are providing them with welcome income!

Denver.. What are you looking for? Size? Price? Neighborhood? The area you are mentioning covers some basic worker's homes to elite vacation homes.
