Any nice suggestions? Happy to travel to Philly if required. Something outdoors would be nice...

Winterthur's gardens, especially their Enchanted Woods children's gardens, are a lot of fun for both parents and kids:

Especially For Families

You have to pay, but a family membership is $75 and good for unlimited admission to gardens, basic house tour, and exhibitions for a year. The gardens are worth every penny. (admission for the day is pretty expensive, so the best deal by far is the membership if you think you'll visit a couple of times over the course of the year)

Ever tried the Branywine Zoo? I have a 3 year old grand daughter I want to take there this summer, keep forgeting it's there. She loves animals.

We used to be members of the Brandywine Zoo; haven't been there for a few years (no longer live in DE) but assuming that it hasn't changed dramatically it's worth a visit. It's a nice, small place, but with a younger child the small size is actually a major perk. It's more manageable, there aren't the crowds that you find at a bigger zoo, and it's overall just a nice place to wander around. Plus, it's cheap, so there's not the pressure to make an entire day out of it or to "get your money's worth." We used to live near there and visited quite frequently.
