Parts of New Castle being evacuated. (Clayton: taxi, disposal, taxes)

Police about 5:30 p.m. began evacuating portions of New Castle City starting near the 100 block of West Ninth Street.





State, county and city police, as well as officers from the state Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, are on scene.

Members of the State Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit were wearing heavy uniforms with helmets in the parking lot of St. Anthony social club.

Neighbors and residents were walking out of the area, including Helen Ingram of the 900 block of Clayton Street.

She said she was told by police that they suspect explosives and needed to clear out a 600-foot radius.

We have lost all tolerance and see evil around every corner... not a great commentary on the strongest nation on the Earth.

Well, I believe that group are called " The Tea Party". What explanation could there be for large amounts of ordinance being held in a residential area? Some right wing nutcase would seem most likely if the story is true. This "greatest nation on earth" has ever produced its share of radical nutters, let's be honest. Canada it ain't.

just remember, this "greatest nation on earth" was built upon the ideas of right wing nutcases that didn't want to pay taxes to an empire taxing them without fair representation...sound familiar?

Just because large amounts of ordinance is being accumulated in one area, doesn't make it automatically associated with a politcal cause or the "tea party" - people like to collect weapons and ammunition because they feel that the government is making rules to take away their constitutional right to bear arms...without bearing arms, this nation would still be a sovereign land under the crown...

I hadn't noticed that Canada, Australia and New Zealand were doing particularly badly in their status as dominions of the Crown.

The Second Amendment doesn't provide for a right to raise what amount to private and potentially seditious armies, nor to maintain private depots of munitions disproportionate to an individual citizen's membership of an ORGANIZED and STATE-SPONSORED militia (the National Guard under the present system).

Washington, Adams, Hamilton and other members of the colonial political elite weren't right wing rabble, but rather were privileged, English-oriented patricians.

According to one of the neighbors, the man who started this is a veteran who has emotional problems. The rumor is that he also has a serious alcohol dependency. He was trying to burn some of his personal papers because he thought the government might do him some type of harm. His roommates are the ones who called the police. There is no indication that he is a member of any type of organization--just emotionally disturbed.

Tim McVeigh wasn't acting in capacity of any organization either. No doubt he met diagnostic criteria for a personality disorder.

Probably both fit the criteria of some personality disorder (don't we all at some point), but I don't believe that Tim McVeigh was considered the local "drunk" as is the case here. Drunk and drug-addicted people can do some serious damage to property.

That is correct...now - since parlimentary rule has been in place, the crown has lost most of its governing power. But up to that point, who knows what would have happened if there had been more land mass under the crown with loads of people sympathetic to King George (or whoever was ruling) continued to populate this land.

The argument can go on and on about how you or I interpret the 2nd Ammendment...but I won't be the one to continue it.

No one brought politics into this but you did...why can't people have beliefs without someone thinking that their idealogy is better and therefore has to attack their stance?
