had 2 root canals and one filling replaced last November. Now, I'm having head pain, bones in nose throbbing, whole mouth throbbing, just generally feel rotten. Last week, dentist pulled the first one he'd done the root canal on, trying to stop all this throbbing pain. put me on antibiotics, seems like my whole mouth throbs. No tooth pain, just general discomfort but still having head pain.
He used composite filling, the first of this I've ever had, and ever since November, I've had a white coating of some sort on all my teeth and gums.
What is going on with all this mess? The reason for the root canals in November, is that all of a sudden my tooth became so "quicky" I couldn't touch it, or even rub my face over the tooth. Help, please.

Last week, a dentist pulled a tooth you had a previous root canal, and used a composite filling? That makes no sense. You don't get filling put in a hole in your gum where a tooth used to be. You get fillings in teeth. Unless you mean "drilled" and not "pulled?"
And - you've had an odd phenomenon with your mouth, the white coating on your teeth and gums, since November? That's nine months. What did you tell the dentist when you told him about it after you'd had the problem for the first month? What was the diagnosis? What treatments did he recommend, or specialist did he refer you to?
the filling was put into another tooth where the old filling had cracked----not into the gum.....DUH!!
He pulled the two teeth that was root canalled last November, as they were really bothering me.
Now, I have had two extractions, (last one 3 days ago) gum still SOOOOO sore, still somewhat throbbing. I'm on Keflex antibiotic, now I'm wondering when all this pain and throbbing will be gone.
Is anyone else having problems with tooth resorption, which the dentist says is my problem. The two teeth he had to pull were good teeth...not even any cavities, but were so painful and sensitive. They were really bothering me. I couldn't wait to get them gone.
Has anyone else had trouble with tooth resorption? This is what my dentist says is going on. It is kind of like the body attacking itself, similar to auto-immune problems.
My dentist is excellent, best reputation ever, is an oral surgeon, and is top notch.
Root resorption.....those are the magic words and now things make sense. This is a phenomenon that is poorly understood. The tooth (often from the inside) starts to dissolve away until it breaks or gets infected. It's sometimes due to an old traumatic event but we never really know. The prognosis is very poor when this happens and a root canal is usually the only way to save the tooth. But even root canals are not always successful, as you now know unfortunately.
thanks, toofache32. The second tooth with the root canal was extracted this past Tuesday. I've been on Keflex for about 21 days, but I'm still having the throbbing, "quicky" feeling in the gum. Will the root resorption travel from tooth to tooth? Seems like the next tooth is feeling funny also.
He gave a prescription for a ZPak, but I haven't taken any of this since I was taking Keflex. Wonder if these bad feelings are coming from the extractions, or is it the next tooth being affected by resorption?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
