Wow, I just got screwed by these guys. My job provides dental insurance via these guys and I had a dentist visit about 6 months ago. Well, when I was seeing if my insurance would cover it, they said it did and I only had to pay my part which at the time was only $500.

So I paid it and thought I had nothing else to be paid until I started getting these bills from my dentist. So I finally upped and called them to see what was going on and apparently, there's a one year waiting period for it, something that wasn't mentioned.

The receptionist said I was one of the cases involved in the mix, so apparently I'm not the only one. So now I've got to shelve out $500, but the dentist office was willing to work with me on it.

*sighs*

Boo on the fine print eh?

It could be worse money wise! At least you did not need dentures. Then you would be really mad..and broke.

I have a friend that is covered by delta and he's looking at so much dental work he probably can't afford it with insurance.
His plan only covers half or something like that.
The estimate for his treatment is almost 12K!
I'm going to give him a heads up regarding delta.

This probably the best advice anyone could give. You can get at copy of the treatment plan and actually call the insurance company yourself if you want to. I have to do this with my dentist, they like to estimate and have you pay the estimated amount when the work is done and then if they got it wrong it takes them forever to get your money back to you.

I also got a bill from a dentist about 9 months after the work was done. Delta evidently refused to pay for a portion of it it was expected to foot, the dental office appealed, but still didn't get the money, so I got the surprise!

Another thing you need to consider (which is out of your hands), is which "plan" within Delta did the employer elect. One person at company A can have great coverage, while another at company B will have very limited coverage, and yet persons A and B have the same carrier.

My experience with insurance is that it is less about the insurance carrier, and more about the type of coverage an employer selects for its employees. But, this is just anecdotal.

At least you have dental and medical insurance. A lot of people don't have ANY.

That's true. All plans are not created equal. I have BCBS PPO and I don't need referrals to specialists, but there must be some BCBS plans that work like HMOs in this respect. The coverage could be different, too.
