I have been living in Atlanta for 15 years (orig. from FL) and considering a major lifestyle change by moving out to Denver where my husband has family there and more contacts for business opportunities.
But can an active city girl like me of 53,who loves sports(team tennis, cycling, pilates but does not ski, and loves the energy of the city REALLY feel at home in the west and expect to meet new friends and embrace change at this stage of my life? My biggest fear is change, as I have only lived in 2 states my entire life. Neither of us are working now, so connecting that way is not an option.
My second biggest fear is feeling isolated and lonely. My husband and I do not have have any children together. My son lives in Boston, my sister and brother in S. Georgia., so chances are pretty good that I would never see them. The upside to all this is that nothing is really keeping us here in Atlanta other than being able to sell our house. Even then, we are still in a position to go and leave the house on market.
Do I stay here or shall I just go for it?
I feel stuck.

If you're in a financial position to leave without selling your house, why not? Leave the house on the market and come try out the area for a year or two. There's no law saying you have to stay if you don't like it. Also Denver is an extremely active area in all sports (not just skiing even though you should give it a try). You may feel isolated and lonely and want to move back or you could think it's the best place you've ever been to and wish you did it sooner. You'll never know if you don't try. BTW personally I would take the weather in Denver over Atlanta. Last time I was in Atlanta it was 104 with something like 90% humidity. There is virtually no humidity in CO (even though natives will call it humid if there is even traces).

I agree with the above. I will say, you are being realistic about the isolation from family being a concern. It takes 4 hours in the air to get to Boston, and that's not counting the travel to/from the airport, and the waiting time in the airport. We recently went to S. Georgia for vacation; flew to Jacksonville. It took about 9 hours (had to change planes in Chicago), not including to/from airport. Understand that going into it and it may not be as much of a problem.
