My partner and I are moving to Denver, Colorado with our 6 year daughter from Queens, NY. We are looking to rent (budget is $1800 and we have a car) in the Denver immediate area. Looking for a great to good elementary school in a good school district and safe. Nice parks and outdoor activities to with a six year girl. Near public transportation and adult activities Like dinning movies and night club. Gay friendly a must. We will be moving without jobs (Counseling, non-profit, Home Health Aide), plan on gaining full employments when we to Denver. We both will be entering into college (Master Degree & BA Nurse) when we get there. We both are 28 & 32 females...looking to slow down a little and raise our daughter ....420 medically necessary..any help

Oh, got it. I was going to ask what made you choose Denver over anywhere else, but then I got to the marijuana part. You should have no problem with MMJ, since the industry is a huge joke and anyone who wants it can get it.

As far as where to live, you'll have to make some compromises. I don't think you'll have a problem with anyone being non-accepting of gays, but your combo of transit/things to do/but in a good school district/area is tough. Also, you might have a hard time finding jobs, so just keep that in mind too.

Good luck with your move!

I'd search for employment first.

We will would compromise on the transportation because we already have a vehicle. A good school district is a top priority. Actually even though we are New Yorkers we are not just moving for MMJ. We lived in both Virginia (Chesterfields) & Florida (Hallandale Beach) looking for a better, cleaner, we just looking for something different. If it was MMJ we could have went to New Jersey, Seattle, California, and various other places. But we stumble on the hidden jewel of the country. we just fell in love and want to raise our daughter there. The prospect of having our daughter in one of the best public school system in the country is something that both of us cannot let go. My degree is Mass Communication and my partner will be getting her Nursing degree. We are no slouch who are looking for MMJ. We are part of the new American frontiers looking to settle in Denver. We are currently looking for full time employment. How is the job market for Denver?

I'm not trying to be rude, but I don't understand what you mean by this.

If you're looking for the best public school system in metro Denver, you'll probably have to look at one of the suburban school districts, like Cherry Creek, Douglas County, Boulder Valley, etc. Denver Public Schools (generally) aren't as good as the schools in the surrounding area.

Also, the job market varies based on what field you're in, but I wouldn't say that the market is awesome right now as a whole. Tech industry is doing pretty well but there are other fields where it's difficult right now.

Job market is mediocre. Not horrible, not good. Find something before you get here. And expect to be paid quite a bit less than New York.

If $1800 is for an apartment, 2-3 bedroom, you can live pretty much anywhere. Houses may limit you somewhat.

The neighborhoods with good nightlife don't have good schools. The neighborhoods with good schools don't have a good nightlife. And your better neighborhoods/suburbs generally don't have many, if any, MMJ shops. Boulder might be a really good option, as it does have great schools and a fair amount of things to do, but your rental budget won't get you as much there. If you choose to live in Denver, you will sacrifice on school quality. You also might want to look at Lakewood/Wheat Ridge/Arvada, which have decent suburban schools, a fair amount of things to do, and easy access to downtown.

How can you say you have a housing budget of $1,800 when you don't know what your income will be?

Some people have multiple revenue streams beyond just salary. Could be inheritance, annuity, interest or rental income...we don't really have a full grasp of the OP's financial position (and it's not really our business).
