Another closure to report on: Today Borders filed for bankruptcy protection, will close 200 of its stores - 6 in Colorado - in the next several weeks. That is most of the stores in the metro area. No official list yet of which stores effected. About 6,000 of Borders' 19,500 workers will lose their jobs in the "restructuring".

Once again, it is sad to see people losing jobs. With eBooks and online resources this is, however, not surprising. I got an eBook reader recently and of course will not be going to book stores as often. And so the cycle continues.

I used to hang around every BN and Borders, with their cafe and free wi-fi back in the day, the BN folks in Park Meadows Mall even know the kind of shorts and shoes I have LMAO, every one of them. To me, that was one of the best surroundings to feel the sense of community that you live in.

e-Readers simply make people more and more lonely and socially handicapped. I'll never read from an e-reader. I even bought 2 heavy books from barnes and nobles 2 weeks ago. I like carrying a book with papers and actually feeling it and assimilating information in.

It's simply etched in my psyche, growing up with my heavy school bag

Let them close all shops, let them all evolve with their fancy i-Things. The biggest loser in this evolution is human interaction.

How much interaction is there really when everyone in the bookstore cafe has their head buried in a book? There's nothing from stopping anyone from reading their Kindle at a coffee shop, park, or bench in a mall.

I read tons on line, but love books. Tattered Cover in LoDo is a great bookstore to sit and read, munch, etc.

When I buy a book, I take a yellow highlighter and mark up all the key ideas so I can come back over the years and pick out the salient points the author made.

People losing their jobs is never a good thing. The announcement was made on 11 News here in Grand Junction that the Borders in this part of the state is slated for closure as well.

I agree with Antlered Chamataka. The biggest loser is human interaction.

I am note sure I agree. Just like with a regular book, feel free to go to a store with your ereader and read that instead. Interact with as many people as you want.

From personal experience, I can't say that there is a whole lot of personal interaction going on. Everyone is into their books/e-readers.

Tattered Cover is exactly the reason why I don't care about Borders closing, let B&N follow too. I love Tattered Cover.

I prefer the niche book stores or stores like Tattered Cover that don't just shelf books from the publishers that pay them the most. I am not quite into the eReader thing yet, but I can say that saving paper is a big deal and soon you won't have a choice but to use one.

Plus the idea of carrying around 300 books in a bag is exhausting .
