My husband and I currently live in Aurora, CO, but are planning to move closer to Boulder (where he works) in the next 6-12 months. We've been living in Aurora for about a year and a half because my job requires me to live close. I'm planning on leaving that job in the next year, so we'll no longer be tied to Aurora (although I love the city and where we live), and we want to move closer to Boulder to reduce his commute time and cost.

We're looking to buy a house for the first time, hopefully in the $190-210K range, and I'd prefer to find a place somewhere between Boulder and Denver. Based on initial searches, we're thinking the Broomfield/Westminster area. I'm quite content in a normal subdivision, but my husband prefers more space. Does anyone know of any areas or neighborhoods between Denver and Boulder where houses have a decent amount of space between them (say roughly 200-300 feet in the back and around the sides)?

Thanks!

Default Find a good real este agent

What you are looking for are "horse properties". They are all over the place in Jeffco, Lakewood, Wheat Ridge, Arvada, etc.
The problem is: finding them.
While I love Zillow, it is not the best tool for this type of search. Try searching on "lot size". By the way, 200-300 feet around would imply more than an acre to me.
What you need (and, it pains me to write this) is a real estate agent(s) who really know(s) the locale where you want to live.
A good one (and, I have no clue how to find a good one) will know about properties that are not yet on the market, but will be when you want to move.

coupleintransition, Congrats on the pending move! While there are opportunities in northwest denver with plentiful land around homes, the difficulty is going to be finding something in the $190-210 price range that you are desiring to be in.

Default If your willing to go a little further east

To get the space at the price you want you may want to go a little further east. Try Brighton near Todd Creek. Here are some examples of a listings.

10920 E 159th Pl, Brighton, CO 80602 MLS# 650432 - Zillow

10955 E 159th Pl, Brighton, CO 80602 MLS# 1023026 - Zillow

9889 E 159th Pl, Brighton, CO 80602 MLS# 1046879 - Zillow

These probably wouldn't be too bad of a commute because they are right on Hwy 7 which if your husband follows it west and zig zags a bit would get him to Boulder.

It is country living however and you would have to see if it was close enough to shopping and groceries for you.

If you wanted to be in more of a suburb something like this would probably be good. It backs and sides to open space so you only have one neighbor.
13738 Locust St, Thornton, CO 80602 MLS# 1049229 - Zillow

Good luck!
P.S. I'm not a real estate agent, just live in the area. Happy to answer questions.

In Broomfield, 2 "horse property" areas are Sunnyslope, at 120th west of Lowell; and Pony Estates, at Dillon Rd/136th Av, west of Sheridan. However I doubt you'll find anything around $200K. As someone else suggested, find a LOCAL realtor to help you. As a buyer, it costs you nothing. Also, here is a link to a good property search tool, that allows for an "acreage" setting

BTW, a 100' x 200' lot = .45 acre
