Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, but coming from the Vail area I'm absolutely shocked at how cheap many rents seem to be for apartments I'm looking up. I'm finding a lot of places for anywhere from 650-800, which seem (I know, hard based on a website) nicer than the place I'm in now that I pay much more for. My current place also doesn't include anything like a pool, gym, laundry, etc. which seems to be pretty standard for the places I'm seeing. Is this typical or should I stay away from anything that cheap? I can afford more, but of course would like to save money if possible. I'm really looking for a place that's clean, safe, well kept- it doesn't have to be a huge apartment or anything. Even around my home city in the midwest, anything near the city that cheap is going to be a roach motel. I was looking around areas like city park, congress park, lodo, and south aurora. I won't be moving for a couple more months and will make appointments to check out places in person- just asking out of curiosity right now.

Comparing ski resort rents with Denver is like comparing Manhattan rents with Denver. You'll get WAY more for your money in Denver. That said, you're not going to find a decent 1-bedroom downtown (Lodo, Cap Hill, Highlands) for under $1000. If it's 650-800 it is probably in a sketchy area or a long way from downtown like Aurora. If you want a nice place downtown plan on spending at least $1000, probably more like $1200 for a one bedroom.
