Many people are visual, so I thought I post maps that would help people understand Denver and Colorado a bit better.

I'll start:
Colorado Congressional District Map

I chose this map because each congressional district must have roughly the same population. Each of these districts represents about 720,000 people.

Of note:
- In District 5, El Paso County accounts for about 630,000 of the 720,000 people.
- In District 4, the Douglas County portion accounts for about 280,000 of the 720,000 people.

This shows that the vast majority of people in Colorado live in and around the Denver Metro Area.

Default How Far is it from Denver to the Ski Resorts?

Map of Major Ski Resorts and their distances from Denver.

The closest ski area to Denver is 40 miles away from the western edge of Denver. Driving to Aspen, you might as well drive from New York to Baltimore. It's about the same distance

Default It's Dry out there

Amount of Annual Precipitation in Colorado

Note: This measures rainfall from 1961 - 1990. That period was a wet cycle. A more current map would show even lower averages than these.

David: Great thread, hope we can fill it up and make it dense with info for people.

That New York to Baltimore example points out what a lot of east coast people aren't cognizant of, which is the vastness of this nation once you get west of the Mississippi River.

Distances out here are vast. From the upper N.E. corner of Colorado (Ovid) to the lower S.W. corner of Colorado (Cortez) is 550+ miles. To an easterner, we have to explain to them that this is the same as driving from Boston, MA to Richmond, VA which will really open their eyes.

Default Light Rail Map of Denver

Here are the finished Light Rail Lines in Denver.

Like all mass transit maps, it is not drawn to scale.

Well, since some people liked it, I'll contribute this one. Where the ski slopes and small towns are, in relationship to Denver.

Denver in 1920, with streetcar lines everywhere, and no interstates highways or one way streets.
