It is an urban area, it is generally supposed to have more crime.

More people in a small area = more crime.

If I wanted walkable access to everything on Colfax, I couldn't think of a better spot.

The couple of blocks near Colfax might be that way, but south of say 12th or so is a much different vibe. Southern portion of Cap Hill is much different than northern IMO.

The number 1 and 2 crimes in Denver are: theft of and theft from motor vehicle.
Many of the high rises along cheesman park rent parking spots in the garage for about $50/month. Parking is only a problem if you are too cheap to pay for it.

This is a great area as long as you are south of 14th Ave. South of 13th is even better. Close to cheesman park and a block or two away from colfax.

That is a very cool area. Colfax is nothing like it was even 5 years ago. Sure there are always a few "characters" but that's part of downtown living. Like the earlier post said DO NOT rent anything in Capitol Hill unless it come with parking (preferably gated). It is a nightmare to park in that area.

Overexaggerated. Plenty of people live in Capitol Hill without reserved or garage parking for a reason.

It's sometimes tough to find a close by spot. I have NEVER had to park more than two blocks away from our building though. If that's too much for a person, I don't think they'd truly enjoy the urban setting. Point of living here is that so much is close by that doesn't require a car.

It depends where you live in Capitol Hill. Closer to Colfax it sucks. I lived between 13th and 14th on Washington for years and knew better than to return to the neighborhood after six. Wasn't really a problem until I started taking night classes at DU (after working at my office on CO Blvd) and returning regularly after 9. It was ridiculous. Often I'd have to park a block or two North of Colfax, because there was absolutely nothing open near my building. It's worth pointing out that a Denver block is 1/8 mile. So, nothing like circling 50 times or parking 1/4 to 1/2 mile away with a backpack and a couple bags of groceries, at night, with howling wind or snow. I like city living, and often parked my car on Friday for the whole weekend (72 hour permit was a must). But due to my work and school, I had to have a car because transit in the middle of the city didn't suit my needs. Plenty of people live in Cap Hill without reserved spaces, but an off-street spot would absolutely be a requirement for me if I moved back.

Just shell out the $100-200 for a parking spot if you have to. No way would I shell out 1200-1800 for an apartment and then have to drive around looking for a parking spot and lug groceries 4 blocks. It may be downtown but it's not Manhattan.
