We currently live in Monument and have kids in 6th and 8th grade. My husband started a new job in Littleton off of S. Wadsworth. His commute is 50-60 minutes on a good day each way. We are considering moving closer to his work but not sure if it is worth it. After much research I've found that housing is more up there and the schools are much larger. I've read a lot of negative reviews about the Douglas county schools but know that online reviews are not always the best source of information. I'm most interested in feed back on Thunderridge HS and the Castle Rock high schools. Does anyone have kids in these schools or know a little more about them? Thanks!

I have experience with Mtn Vista High School in HR and Castle View HS in C.Rock

Our oldest graduated from MV and did very well there, but it is a very white bread, round pegs into round holes kind of school. It seems that they had a very hard time figuring out how to deal with our youngest who is a bit more of a free spirit. Good kid - no drugs or the like, just did not like class. We transferred him to Castle View in Castle Rock and he did great. Graduated and on to college where he is doing well. He is a bit more "red-neck" than the admin and staff at MV likes to deal with. He fit in well with the Castle Rock school.

Both are good schools, it just seems MV is good as long as you meet their standard image. Our youngest did not.

I live and work in Highlands Ranch. Thunderridge HS claim to fame is that it has an IB program, and a pretty good athletic program.

You could investigate Jefferson County, Douglas County and Littleton Schools. Then narrow your search to South Jeffco, Southern Arapahoe County and Highlands Ranch & Castle Rock.

The commute you describe is killer.

My three kids went to Mountain Vista and they all went on to college, one has since graduated.

BDG80126, thanks for the quick replay. My son sounds more like your youngest. It is good to get that kind of feedback about the schools. I appreciate it.

2bindenve, thanks for your take on Thunderridge. My son is not involved in any school sports and at this time is not taking any AP classes so that is something for me to consider. Since the kids don't want to move it would need to be a school that is a good fit for them.

Anyone live in Roxborough Village with a child at Thunderridge HS? Curious about the commute in the morning. Maps show it is almost 20 minutes. Is this accurate?

I can comment on LPS (though I know that's not in the search window you described). Arapahoe and Heritage are very good. Littleton High is decent but lags behind the other two.

Chatfield HS is closest to where your husband works. It's a good school. My boss's daughter attended there and did well. Now a freshman in college after being offered a volleyball scholarship.
