I second this. An absolutely phenomenal school. According to Colorado School Grades it holds the #1 spot for public elementary school in the state (tied with a few others actually). Very high achieving school with no real need for remedial work among the population. You won't be able to choice into Steck, you must live within the boundaries. Steck feeds into Hill MS, which currently is not great, but more Steck students are starting to attend Hill, so I assume it will only continue to improve.

Houses in the Steck boundary in your budget DO exist -- you just have to be quick and willing to do a little work.

As another poster said, think ahead. Choice is big in Denver and although some schools are easier to choice into than others, where you live matters. Think about feeder schools and the progression from elementary to high school. I'd probably pick Park Hill, Montclair or Congress Park.

I live in SE Denver and my kids went to Bradley (an IB school), Hamilton (also IB) and now East HS. We choiced into all 3. Given where my girls go to HS, though, I maybe should've had them go to the boundary middle school (Hill) so the transition to HS wasn't so challenging. Choice is cutthroat in the elementary level....and getting into East can also be a challenge. The year my oldest daughter (now a senior) choiced, there were 500 kids on the waitlist.

GW is supposedly changing the way they operate the school. My nephew is a freshman this year so it will be interesting to see what happens.

Don't poo-poo DPS schools. There are alot of really great ones. I'd much rather my kids go to East than Littleton HS or Cherry Creek, for that matter.
