I will be moving to Denver from Tulsa, OK within the next year. What are the best suburbs to move to. I would like to live closer to the mountains so most likely west Denver area. My wife and I will most likely rent at first then eventually buy a home after we become more familiar with the area.

I suggest Golden. Jumping off point for trips to the mountains. Has a station on the rail line for commuting to Denver. Has a nice brewery too...

Budget? I spend quite a bit of time in Tulsa. Which area are you coming from? Likes/dislikes about it? What do you value in a neighborhood? Why are you moving?

Budget will be around $450k. It’s just my wife and I. We are in are upper 20’s, I currently live around the Brookside area. I work outside so I do not like the hot humid summers. That my major dislike. I like having local restaurants to eat at and being somewhat close to the city. We don’t like isolation. We don’t have kids, so schools don’t matter. We also like to be close to some chain type stores, targets, Whole Foods, etc. Main reason for moving is because of the weather. I grew up vacation in Colorado, from back packing in boyscouts to skiing in vail during the winter. I love the weather and the outdoor activities. I play a lot of golf and golfing in the summer in Oklahoma is miserable. I’m a lineman and wearing rubber gloves and sleeves in 115 degree heat index is miserable. And Colorado is more labor union friendly, there is way more opportunity for work in my industry and way more money.

Check out Arvada to the northwest of Downtown Denver.

There are other options as well. Be ready for some sticker shock.

Fellow lineman! Ha

I agree with Arvada or even Bel Mar/Lakewood area. I live in the latter and I love it, it seems to get a bad rep on this forum though.

You won’t find anything closer to Denver for 450K unless you’re okay with a condo or a 1400sqft home without a garage/driveway.

Both those places have a super easy commute to downtown, I usually drive or walk to the light rail to go to games or events downtown.

Lakewood, look for older smaller homes. Best of luck!

Yes, Golden, CO is a good, edge-of-the-mountains Denver suburb to look at. Even if you lived in Aurora, you could visit the mountains pretty quickly. Anything you live around becomes "everyday" after awhile, and that includes mountains. So, I'm questioning if living right next to the mountains should be your main criteria in your search. But, that's up to you -- of course.
