The yards out here are tiny. Usually the older neighborhoods like from the 80's have bigger yards. I used to live in the HR and the yards were so small out there that I used one of the manual push mowers to mow the tiny lawn I had. It took about 10 minutes. Granted it was right next to a park but not everyone is that fortunate.

There are actually some homes with relatively large yards here. Even in the city of Denver, there are yards in Southmoor and some of the surrounding neighborhoods with generously sized yards by any standard, some up to about 1/2 an acre or more (which in the city of Denver is quite remarkable). Many of the pre-1980s homes in the older suburbs also have larger yards, for example, in many of the Jefferson County suburbs. Newer than 1980 or so, though land was simply too valuable to waste on big lots, except for some ultra-high-end homes in exclusive neighborhoods like Cherry Hills Village. In newer developments, the developer can make much more money simply packing the houses in tighter, and the market doesn't value the big lots enough to pay the extra money for them, in most cases.

Well, the oldest neighborhoods in Denver have lots of tall trees. I drive through Park Hill a lot and I love the canopy of trees over Montview, 17th, Monaco, etc. It reminds me of being back east.

Yeah, but still nothing like the yards back east that look as if you're driving into a forest. *sigh*

Even so, I wouldn't want too many trees around me in CO. Dry climate + trees = begging for sewer line repairs = $$$$$. As it is I already have to figure out how to landscape a dog-friendly backyard.
