We are seriously considering a move from Miami to Colorado. Our son lives in Denver, so we don't want to be too far from him (up to an hour'ish) Looking for a place that has a small town feel with somewhat liberal leanings. Want to be in a mountain town ( so not Louisville or similar ) Need green all around if possible & some views. So far, we are considering Golden & Evergreen. Thoughts? Other suggestions? We are empty nesters, so schools are not a consideration. Just looking for a good quality of life & lovely people as we start our new adventure.

Golden has rail line for getting into the city. Walkable downtown area, as I recall. Easier access to Denver than from Evergreen. Lower elevation than Evergreen. A bit of a college town; COLO School of Mines is there. I haven't checked their voting history, but expect it is center-left.

Evergreen has some issues you can read about in the current thread now active. It's a higher elevation, gets more snow and cold and there is some concerns with wildfires in exurban areas.

I would also say Golden. It is beautiful, easy access to larger urban area if needed, etc. Evergreen to my mind is nice but not as pretty, more isolated, harder to get in and out of, etc.

The green all around thing is tough in Golden. Golden isn’t a mountain town really. More of a Denver suburb with a cute downtown strip.

I like Evergreen, but it is harder living because of more snow and wildfire threats.

There are houses in the foothills that have a Golden mailing address. Maybe this is what OP means instead of the city of Golden?

Evergreen is a forest community. Golden most certainly is not. While Golden can be plenty green in summer once the monsoon rains set in, in Winter it's brown brown brown much of the time.

The “brown” thing is overplayed. There is green year round in the metro area if you choose to see it.

Evergreen is more remote and prone to snow.

Golden is more connected and I think has better restaurants.

Both get crowded on summer weekends.

I would personally pick Golden.

Dear OP,
Do not confuse postal addresses with physical addresses.
You need to understand municipal boundaries and unincorporated county areas.
