I plan to ship my Camry from San Jose to Denver. I tried to get some online quotes, they are all over $700. Is this a normal price and any moving companies recommendations? Thanks.

We are moving from NJ to CO on 08/01 and the quote we got is around $900. We are budgeting $1000. Keep in mind that as the summer progresses and gas prices increase the quote will increase too.

We moved from New Orleans to Boulder a couple of years ago. We hired North American for our move and they had their own subcontracted car carrier. They couldn't have been nicer. It was 700-900 I don't remember exactly. The driver called and said when he was loading other cars in Houston, one bumped into mine. I expected to see a large dent but when it arrived I couldn't even find a scratch! I thanked the driver for his honesty. You cannot put a price on that!

No way to drive it or having a friend drive it for you? Yes it's pricey to have cars transported. Try to find one that will work within your timeline, especially if you need your car immediately as soon as you get here.

$700 to ship a 1999 car is too much for me. I probably should sell it.

If I lived in San Jose I'd do it for the gas money and a plane ticket home!

Alas, I do not live anywhere near San Jose ^_^

$700 is not bad considering the price of gas and things like food and lodging along the way, which wouyld easily cost more than that. I just went through this (San Jose to COS area), and here are the options I discovered, from worst to best:
4) Use a commercial shipping company to transport your vehicle ($700-$900)...
3) if you're already driving your own rental truck, get a trailer or hitch for it and tow it yourself ($100-$300 (not including the rental tuck))
2) Have a friend drive it out for you and tell them you'll buy a return airfare for them ($150-200, not including gas and whatever else your friend may want you to pay for)
1) Go to uShip - The Online Shipping Marketplace - Ship Freight, Furniture, Vehicles or Moves and put out an offer (much like an ebay post) and people will bid on how much they'll do it for ($???... many people will do it for next to nothing if they happen to be going that way ayways... you're sort of taking your chances on who you get, but the site does have auser rating system which works the same as ebay's seller/buyer ratings...)

I ended up talking a family member into coming out and caravaning with us, which was a lot of fun, so all I had to pay for was gas, but otherwise I would have used the uship option... Of course if your car is very expensive or precious to you, I would use a family member or firend, or maybe even fly back again and bring it back myself. Have a safe trip.

How much would you be willing to pay? How much could you get for it in SJ?

Drive it yourself, if you can. Two nights' lodging (at the most), about $200 for gas and food, and great vistas along the way. I drove my car from LA for about $400.
