I often drive past the site surrounded by signs that read, "Future home of..The Shoppes at Gateway Park". The site is near the State Fairgrounds, at 8 and Woodward.

However, I have yet to see any development whatsoever. Has it been delayed or cancelled? If not, when is it scheduled to be completed?

Meijer plans to build a store there, so I'm sure they're hoping to sell some other sites in a strip mall type of setup. I don't think Meijer will be open til 2012 though.

yea what jeanniepep said. There was a plan to build a mall on state fair grounds back in I believe 08 when they were first talking about shutting down the state fair but whoever was sponsoring it decided against it and then meijer decided to build there. We will see

While we're on the subject of that general area, what's up with that huge, partially finished church on Woodward? Seems I read somewhere that the Winans family of gospel music fame started it, but what happened, and will it ever be finished or will it just sit there and rot? Or are they working on it and I just don't know it, since I haven't been through that area in a couple of months?

I heard the family ran out of funds about halfway through.

Not sure about what's happened since then, but I saw it yesterday when I was in Chaldean Town, and construction seems to have resumed.

I think it's pretty sad Detroit doesn't have a mall! And I don't mean a strip mall I mean a real mall. I have been to a lot of major cities and that is one thing each city have is a mall. Why isn't there a mall in Detroit???
