Those are good points.
To me, 10% of renewable energy is still pretty good for now based on how slow the US has been to adopt new technologies, and I think it will keep increasing - look at the advances in wind power alone. And this report was from the end of 2009, when wind generation was increasing 33% a year.

I never said there was no consequences, I was talking about being closer to independence from foreign oil. Right now, our chief lithium exporters are Chile and Argentina - 2 countries that are not known to harbor terrorists.

I don't think 100% electric car would be a replacement to the gas car for a long time, but having a small engine to supplement the electric is a good start. I'd be curious how efficient the Volt would be in a Michigan winter with the heater running full blast. not very would be my guess.

Although the hybrids are more expensive now, once the auto companies make the technology standard the prices should come down once the up front R&D costs are absorbed.

As for the charging - the Cracker Barrel link above says it can be done around 30 minutes (which seems short), and if they are one restaurant to spearhead an initiative I am for it.

And not everyone wants to drive a gas guzzling SUV - a lot of people actually look down on them as a waste of our natural resources.

You make some good points as well. Perhaps I went to far by saying "terrorists". But even anti-American sentiment could prove troublesome.

The batteries for the Chevy Volt are being supplied by a Korean company, LG Chem.
