Many, including myself, are furious with the action taken by the City of Detroit regarding the euthanizing of Ace, an emaciated pit bull rescued from deplorable living conditions and now NOMINATE that city the worst in the nation for its treatment of animals in their pounds and shelters. Read about it by clicking this link:

City of Detroit says 'Ace' the abused and starved dog has been put down after days of public outcry

This dog could have been adopted into a shelter, only too anxious, to provide him a place to stay and eventually find him a loving, caring home to spend the rest of his days BUT NO in spite of public indignation they put him down anyway.

All of us who care about our companion animals wherever they exist in this country cannot but denounce and reject in the strongest possible terms the statement made by Bruce King, the General Manager for the Environmental Health Services Division of the Detroit Department of Health and Wellness Promotion in which he upholds the inexcusable action in the matter by Detroit's Animal Control Manager, Harry Ward and his officers and then denouncing those of us who pleaded for Ace's life in a polite and civil manner saying we had no right to attack their character and integrity and considered such attacks as disingenuous, disconcerting and disappointing and then condemns us for tying up the lines so ordinary citizens could not reach emergency personnel to assist in life threatening situations.

To his statement we say "HOGWASH". All of this could have been prevented by allowing Ace to be placed in this adopting facility and they deserved in FULL MEASURE all the inconvenience they received since they were in the wrong in the first place.

I will now never ever consider moving to Detroit, particularly if I have a companion animal since I now now I can't depend upon their Animal Control officers to do everything in their power to protect or aid my companion animal if in trouble.

If this is the manner in which animal problems are handled in this city then I hope that miserable metropolis continues to crumble into ruin and I will help its miserable decline by not visiting this poor excuse of a city nor spending my much needed tourist dollars there. I hope many others feel the way I do and will join in a national boycott of that city until it changes its most reprehensible ways in treating companion animals.

Yes, I, too, now consider Detroit the WORST CITY in America when it comes to humane treatment of its companion animals.

I can understand your anger, but wishing ill of an entire city because of the actions of a few people at the human society is over the top.

What an idiotic post.

Go editorialize about something that really matters in the long run. If you cannot read and accept the policy the DAC has, then why condemn an entire city over one department? That doesn't even make a tiny bit of sense.

Wait till the Editorialist finds out how people are treating people. Then he/she'll really want to boycott the city.

If all these animal lovers are really animal lovers, they'll go to the animal shelter and adopt some of the many, many neglected animals that are rescued daily.

My sincerest appreciation goes out to those who work in Animal Control. It must be very difficult to have to put to sleep so many neglected/abused animals. Unfortunately, it has to be done. We can't even take care of the people.
