I am a firm believer that everyone needs to find their own path of what works for them. Not everyone is the same. So called 'experts' come on and tell us to stop eating certain food groups and its nonsense. If they prefaced it with, 'this is what worked for me', it would be more welcome.
I agree. All posts should start with IMHO....

That's old science. Osteoporosis is caused by a lack of weight bearing activities that stimulate the production of
osteocytes. This has been the standard for over a decade now

Beyond being ineffective for bone health, calcium supplements also are associated with some pretty serious health risks

Also Dark leafy greens like spinach and collard greens provide more than enough calcium, even if your body did require large amounts of it (it doesn't).

The same reason you are unable to do your own research without someone holding your hand is the same reason you're having troubles controlling your weight.

I don't say that to be "mean spirited." I say that because it's something that YOU need to hear.

The fact that you're even disputing the consumption of red meat lets me know that you are completely uneducated in regards to this topic. There are literally mountains of scholarly journals on everything I have posted.
You haven't even said why red meats are bad.

Dairy and grains can have both positive and negative health benefits; however, one of those negative benefits is that they can lead to weight gain even when consumed in moderation for many of us.
Uhh, no it won't.

Literally dumbfounded. You got nearly everything wrong.

Who said I am having trouble controlling my weight? I am very healthy as a matter of fact. You seem to have some sort of complex.

Well, I take it back... the posts I reported were removed. It's good to know that the more blatant nastiness isn't tolerated.

Oh, I did.

I'll go back to the University of Washington and tell their Nutrition And physiology departments to quit teaching this nonsense because some individual that's been living under a rock was "dumbfounded" by it on an internet forum.

The scariest part about this is the notion that I'm probably the only healthcare professional on this thread that works with weight management, yet I'm being attacked by the very same people that I work with day in and day out. I would like to believe that people like myself can make a difference in combating the obeisity epidemic in this country, but it's stuff like this that only points to the fact that it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

I'm out

If you are being attacked by people that you work with maybe you need to look at your approach which seems very strict. You will not make a dent in obesity if you tell people they have to eliminate entire food groups like dairy and grains. People are not wired that way. If that were the solution more people would be doing it and adhering to it.

I could tell people that suffer with weight issues what they want to hear by saying to just control their portion sizes and go for a 20 minute walk 3 times a week, but I would only be lying to them.

Look, this is the deal, if you have a crap metabolism and a a strong appetite (like most overweight people do), you have two options. You can continue to eat minimal amounts of foods that you like and be constantly hungry, or you can eat moderate amounts of food that you don't care for as much and be full. Studies have consistently shown that the later is more effective in regards to keeping the weight off long term. This is because when high calorie foods are eliminated for some time, the body stops craving them. It generally takes 21 days to form a habit or break a habit from a scientific standpoint. The average person will stop craving these foods after about 3 weeks much like and alcoholic will stop craving alcohol after about 3 weeks of abstinence. After this is accomplished, it comes down to avoiding situations that may cause a relapse in the behavior such as pure pressure, which is a big one when it comes to healthy eating. It is very common for those that make huge changes in their diet to be ridiculed by friends and family menbers that are justifying their own poor eating habits much like drug addicts.

People that are able to do this are always amazed at how easy it becomes after a while, as their body will start to crave healthy foods instead of high calorie foods. It's just challenging at first because our bodies get so accustomed to our poor eating habits that we feel unsatisfied at first when they are discontinued.

I wish I could tell people with weight issues that there was an easy solution to losing weight, but there isn't at this point in time. As a PT, it is my job to tell these people what they need to here. We live in a society that has normalized being overweight to the point that I have patients that are clinically obese that don't believe they're overweight and will refer to individuals that are height weight proportionate as "skinny." Many of these people are literally surrounded by enablers, which only compounds the problem as well.

No...you don't belittle people at all. is a positive thing.

I ask because I have to take my Vit D supplements with calcium - or that's what I was told by my doc.

It is scary to think that you give advice for a living. You jump to a conclusion, dismiss my question as "old science", and then condescend by using the headslap emoticon.

And then you feel superior by claiming that it's US that's the problem.

It truly is your approach.
