I hope this isn't a dumb question. I feel like I should know the answer, but I really don't.

My big dog started making a weird huffing sound this week and now I think it sounds like he's sneezing. AND, the other dog started doing the same thing yesterday.

Do they catch colds? Should I go to the vet tomorrow?

Dogs don't get colds in the sense that humans do. Usually, when dogs exhibit symptoms of cold-like illness, the vet will test for several things. It usually ends up being some respiratory illness, though sometimes can be more serious. Kennel cough, parainfluenza, distemper, and adenovirus all cause cold-like symptoms.

But, what you are describing seems like reverse sneezing. If you go to YouTube and put in dog reverse sneezing, you should get a lot of hits. See if that's what your dog is doing.

They get upper respiratory infections, but they don't get colds from us. The huffing is a cough. He sounds like he definitely has a URI. I don't take my dogs in at the first symptoms, but if they persist I do.

Canine distemper presents with URI symptoms, so I hope they've been vaccinated.

OMG Mak! No, no reverse sneezing. I just looked at a couple of the videos. Poor babies. Nope, my dogs are just kind of one swift exhaling snort. Really does sound like sneezing. No problem with the leash, going outside, nothing. Just HUFF out every so often.

Fontucky, they are all vaccinated, cats & dogs, to the nth! LOLLLL

When I first heard a dog cough (it was a case of kennel cough a new rescue Doberman developed) I thought she was clearing her throat. The vet had to tell me I was hearing doggy coughing.

One of my dogs got tonsillitis and was hacking so badly that I thought she had something caught in her throat. She had a tonsillectomy!

Edison has a upper respiratory infection a few weeks ago. He got some meds from the vet and he's at 100% now. I knew when to stop giving them to him when he was walking around like a zombie, dazed and drowsy all the time. He sounded like he was coughing up a hairball.

My dog had a cold once, and he had dog "boogies", I had to wipe his nose. He sneezed quite a bit. He was over it in a few days. I did not take him to the vet for a few sneezes. He was not wheezing or anything like that.
