After a lot of thought and consideration, DH and I have decided on a new member for our family. Unfortunately, Jerry Lee (our original choice) has a few dominance and food aggression issue that could be problematic in a 4 dog home. My friend in adoptions at the Sanctuary told me the story of another boy in need that looks to be a much better fit for us. Kohla is a 7 1/2 y/o Lab mix that has been at the Sanctuary for some time. Since he has allergies and bad knees (he has just gone through double ACL surgery), he always gets passed over for adoption. He is such a character though that he has an almost cult following of admirers. We are all approved for the adoption and I'm working now on the logistics for traveling from Texas to Utah to meet him and introduce him to other pack members. I'll be taking Sammie and Mariah with me and if all goes well, Kohla will be coming back to Texas with us. Unfortunately, DH and Gator will not be making the trip. DH because of work issues and Gator because of his health issues. I don't want to risk Gator traveling so far from his vet and since he isn't able to jump up or down or climb stairs anymore, I'd have to lift him in and out of the van and up and down any stairs at hotels.

Anyway - this is Kohla. ( I even love the name. Its Lakota for "best friend". Have you ever seen a sweeter face?

Lucky!!!!!!!

ETA: I just watched his video. While you're traveling from Texas to Utah to pick him up, I'll be traveling from Connecticut to Texas to come live with y'all. (Like how I already picked up the "y'all" lingo???) See y'all soon!

LOL!!!! I can't wait, y'all! (Just stop me before I start sounding like Paula Dean.)

Um, I think bringing Artie would result in your DH kicking my butt out the door within the first 10 minutes. I'll leave Artie with Jeremy. If both of them stop speaking to me (which they will), they'll bond over having that in common. Win-win!

In all seriousness, I instantly fell in love with Kohla. You're all very lucky to have found each other. Sigh...

Thanks Dawn! Doesn't he look like just the sweetest, goofiest hunk of Labby-boy that ever pranced the face of the earth? I know he is gonna love the pool! Now Gator...I think his nose may be out of joint for a bit.......

For a bit. Look how well he adjusted to having Sammie in the house. Gator will be fine in no time. Mark my words.

And, oh my, Kohla bouncing around in the stream -- I just about wept from love. He was smiling. SMILING! My heart smiled -- and melted -- watching him. You are in for some ridiculously fun times!

So are Mariah, Gator and Sammie...they just don't know it yet. I have a bunch of people at the Sanctuary that are also very excited to hear that Sammie is coming back for a visit. That little hound stole a lot of hearts in the 4 months she was there. I've already gotten e-mail from 3 different BF people wanting me to be sure to let them know when she (not me - mind you) will be there. I feel like I'm escorting "Her Highness, the Hound" back to greet her subjects!

You are lucky that I didn't see him first!!! It wouldn't be the first lab mix that I've rescued from Utah!! He is an adorable dog!!

Best of luck! Travel safely!
