I've seen several comments throughout time where someone mentions their dog(s) all of a sudden do not like the brand of food they've been eating on a regular basis.
If you're storing in a bin; then line the bin and change it out each time, natural oils go rancid and no one likes that taste. Store it some place where the temperature doesn't consistently change as well.
Also, use a stainless steel or ceramic bowl that you wash regularly so the oils don't go rancid while mixing with the dog's bacteria from their saliva.
We store ours in the garage in a metal can and switch the liner (garbage bag) out every time we buy a new bag of food.

I think a lot of people overlook those areas for sure.
I keep their food in one of those (supposedly) air tight carts but I never take the food out of the bag. When I replace the bags, I clean out any kibble or miscellaneous debris that might have fallen to the bottom. They're see-through so it's easy.

I keep my dog's food in the large bag in a sealed plastic bin in the garage. Then I transfer some into a Rubbermaid cereal container which I usually leave on the kitchen counter. My dog's food bowl is plastic. I now know I need to clean out the Rubbermaid container and I have to clean her food bowl more often.

If you're using a non-porous plastic you're good to go with continual washing, if it's not then I'd suggest getting something different.
i store mine in the freezer, especially this time of year.
