My Maine Coon cat lived to 26 when she had a stroke and lost the use of her hind quarters and I had to PTS. I bet that old lady would still be here if that hadn't've happened.

I saw this on the news last night about the guy and his dog. I cried. Such a beautiful love story. At the end of the story it was told that people from all over the country were trying to pay for the dogs meds or whatever he needed to keep going. That man is sure going to miss his old buddy when the time comes.

Look. The photographer is friends with the guy who owns the dog. She put the picture on her facebook page. She takes pictures of weddings and pets. The picture blew up from there. There was no embellishment and she had no idea the thing would go viral. The dog owner had virtually nothing to do with it going viral; it was a picture taken for his personal use and he gave permission for her to post it on Facebook.

Exactly.

All this argument about age is silly, but if you've seen other pictures or video, this is a medium-size shepherd mix. It appears to be about 40-50 lbs. 19 is a ripe old age for a dog of any size, but it's possible. Even truly large dogs reach that age, very rarely.
Anyway, the point is that the relationship between the man and his dog is beautiful to see.

If the dog is 19 years old and arthritic...
... if the dog is 4 years old and arthritic...
... if the dog is 2 months old and in perfect health...

I wouldn't care which scenario was true... I'd love this man and I'd love this dog and I'd love their story because I love their love for each other.

Good heavens. The dog is old. The picture is beautiful. An old dog has limited time left, especially if he's old enough to fall asleep in the water. No one is asking for money or anything, and as others have pointed out, the man had no idea that the picture would be anything more than a personal photo for him from a friend.

Great pic........nothing like a faithful owner. Gosh I think it's great when people spend time with their pet of any age. We use to take our Lab to the water he loved it so much, even in his last days we'd carry him to the water and he would swim and not want to get out.

Hey, how old is the guy? Is he single, straight and sober?

Go get 'em!!!

ETA: Part of me thinks, knowing your love for senior dogs, that you're just seeing the guy as a gateway to his pup, though.
