An animal behaviorist at our local shelter attended one of her training sessions and brought back some of her techniques to share with staff and volunteers.
I know Sophia Yin Animal Behaviorist | Dr. Sophia Yin, DVM, MS and her work with dogs has been referenced on another breed specific forum I visit frequently. Sophia was an amazing person and opened the eyes of many about the training and care of animals. She will be missed.

I have to say when I watched the Tough Love video when Dr Yin was talking about her boxer it tore my heart apart. It hit home as in 1997 my 2nd dog Jazz had fear aggression and I had dog trainers tell me to do all that crap but trusted my gut enough to be able to say no. I was the one thing in life that dog trusted and felt safe with. I found a vet with the PHD in Behavior he told me it was a good thing I did not listen to what the dog trainers said so my out come was very different then hers . I ended up with my once in a life time dog so she was the best dog she could be despite her issues and in her 14.5 yrs she was out in the community living a good life as we did a lot of stuff with other people and dogs. Jazz never hurt any person or dog, she did control many by warning them when she was afraid and made them back off by doing so. But that was ok, That is what a growl is a warning saying "Hey you are making me uncomfortable, so back off" and I do feel a dog should be able to express that just as I should be able to tell some one that. I trusted her and she trusted me. So yeah to hear Dr. Yin talk about her boxer was tough for me as I could feel her emotion about it Very sad indeed that this woman took her own life last week.
Crazy some people would be so cruel to their pets.
The Vet seemed like such a nice lady/What a loss for the animal world.
Thank ZSP as it only showed up because I reposted her quote and for some reason that caused the video to show up like it did. Most dog trainers I know are more positive training now but not back when I had Jazz as the alph roll and dogs wanting to be in charge because they sleep on my bed or went out the door first stuff was very popular. I just never agreed with it and listened to my gut feelings as I have learned time and time again they are seldom wrong. The out the door first stuff always cracked me up as my dogs go out first and stand and wait for me as the way my front door is it would be difficult to do it the other way as I have to lock it with the key from the outside when I go out so and have an narrow entryway leading to it so to go out before them is just too akward and well not one of them has challenged me because of it

Yes, watching the video made me cry. It made me think back 40+ years ago when I got my first pet (I was an adult) and how I did everything wrong. Even though some of it felt wrong...there just wasn't anything else out there to counter it. Thank doG I quickly learned to follow my instincts and like you...I learned animals need a benevolent and loving leader. It's a win/win for both owner and animal.
Watching Sophia and seeing her pain and angst...I hope she forgave herself and knew how much she contributed to humane treatment and training of animals. Rest in peace Sophia Yin.
