Diarrhea in puppies can cause dehydration rather quickly, I would have a vet check him out.

However, it is worth noting that changing their food suddenly can cause tummy troubles. You can try adding a teaspoon or so of pumpkin (NOT PUMPKIN PIE FILLING) or rice. When you want to give him a new food, you should try transitioning it slowly to prevent tummy problems.

I would take him to the vet just to be sure he is ok. I always keep a can of pumpkin in the house just incase, it helps a lot.

Sounds like the sudden change of food might be the cause. We (people, cats, dogs, etc...) have special bacteria that lives inside our intestines. Most are harmless, even beneficial to us. Some are introduced, others we have since we were babies. When you eat something new, your current bacteria residents will have to adjust. In the meantime, you might experience diarrhea as a response. Some animals get no ill effect (my cat and I can change our diets every day with no issues) while others (like my dog) wouldn't bounce back as fast.

When introducing new foods, start by giving 75% old food mix with 25% new. Then slowly, go 50/50, and eventually 100% new food. Again, some pets can transition in a week with no issues. Others take 2 or 3 weeks. You can add some white rice to help with the diarrhea.

No need to be alarmed or a vet check up unless he continues to have diarrhea after a slow introduction, lethargic or puking.

Agree you need to introduce a new food slowly. If he's not better today he probably needs to go to the vet. Puppies can get dehydrated quickly and sometimes a dog's stomach is so upset it needs medication to get back on track.

Get him to a vet. He can die of dehydration.

Agree with many above, change food slowly. A change in water can cause loose stools as well

One has to use common sense with these sorts of things with dogs. A bit of a loose stool isn't a cause for emergency. Several days in a row... time for a vet visit. Also very smelly diareah... vet!

Also rec. the canned pumpkin as good thing to keep in the cupboard. A small dose of kaopectate will help in the short term as well. Big thing is to make sure he is drinking water... dehydration gets them.

Thanks for all your input, its been very helpful, Im learning from what dog lovers have to tell me , I did email our vet and did an online questionnaire, answering as honestly as I could... and they got back to me .. saying that theres a bug going round just now especially with pups and to watch him carefully in case of dehydration as you've said.... I made sure I kept an eye on all he was drinking but cut out food as the vet said... hated doing it but after a full day he started doing his poos almost back to normal... I think it was our fault for giving him the new dried food. and hes now back on the original stuff we give him, Canine Junior.. he does seem to have a sensitive stomach though and I have to watch what Im giving him ... the vet told me that if he didn't start to do the toilet normally that I was to take him in to see them.. but he seems fine now.... thanks for all the advice but pups are a worry Im finding...
