Next In what appears to be the never ending saga . . . .
Ok now, after talking to her vet and advising that I would not use Blue Buffalo, he is now suggesting Royal Canin® Veterinary Diet Gastrointestinal High-Energy Dog. He advised this is a prescription dog food that I would have to order from him. Its around $50 for a 18lb bag. -_- But apparently it's not prescription only has I have found it online and in Petsmart.
Anybody have any experience with this food?
Right now I feel like I’m just gonna put her back on puppy food. The minute I switched her to adult food this all happened L
ingredients:
Chicken meal, chicken fat, brown rice, corn gluten meal, rice, wheat gluten, powdered cellulose
bolded are wher emy problems come in.
brown rice is fine, but why have brown rice AND rice?! that means the food has more rice than nything else.
Corn...YUCK, not only is it THE mostcommon allergen, and GMO, but its just cheap filler...
Wheat Gluten, #3 in the most common allergens list...
powdered cellulose is simply dry plant matter ground up...
quite frankly youd be better feeding Blue (and ive personally NEVER had issues with blue buffalo)
especially for the price they want for it! WOW
since the vet seems ot be suggesting a chicken and rice based theres PLENTY of great chicken and rice based foods...
if allergies/upset tummy seems to be an issue go LIMITED ingredient, id look into california naturals, they are specifically LIMITED ingredient dog foods origionally designed for ingredient sensitive dogs.
whats she eating right now?,Im assuming shes been checked for worms (particularly tape(hey youd be suprised many times the simplest anwer is the one overlooked))
if shes just loosing weight and already on a good food first thing id do is try swithing her to a red meat protein base (a little higher in fat)
and id take a look online for the recipie for satin balls, they are very commonly used with great danes (who tend to be difficult to keep weight on due to very fast metabolisms), they work...and they work well so if going that route feed sparingly, going to take a look for your other post in the morning (bed time) and will see if i can think of anything else that might be helpfull...
What breed is she and age?
