We give our dachshund Royal Canin for dachshunds. He was having seizures before we started giving it to him, but now he’s the picture of health, so I would recommend it, but I don’t see a specialty food for collies. You might get ahold of the company and ask if they have a specialty food for your dogs.

In most cases, foods like Purina One etc are very healthful. We’ve had other dogs who loved the Purina One Lamb and Rice, and another who loved Rachel Ray Delish.

I use Nature's Logic for the current dogs, Orijen for the last one. Both good food but expensive. Nature's Logic hasn't had any recalls and they seem do go great on the duck and salmon version, it's a little less expensive than Orijen but still runs about $75 for 26(?)lbs on Chewy auto delivery every 6 weeks.

Have you tried changing proteins? Chicken, beef, fish, lamb etc. Your dogs rash might be due to a food allergy.
Our 3 eat Purina Pro-plan Sport and are doing fine. Plus they get scraps and offal.

That is 28 meals for a 7 pound dog. That would be two meals for my big eater.

We've had Shelties since 1987. Our first two Shelties we fed Eukanuba (not sure if spelling is right) but no issues.

Then, around 2001, we switched to Life's Abundance (created by a woman vet) and the dogs loved it.
In 2017, there was a bad batch and they all got sick.

My husband (with the vet's blessing) switched the 2 younger dogs to Iams but now we are second guessing the food. None of our dogs have been sick like the one with cancer and now our Collie has the rash.

He's on medication for that now but during a talk with the radiology tech at the oncoloogist's office, he told me he thought the dog food today is generally awful compared to years ago.

My daughter has her dog on Farmer's Dog - it's expensive but our dogs loved it when she visited.

Any suggestions?

PS - Only dry food.
Your dog could have protein allergy
Our dog ate poultry almost all time bcuz needed low fat
She developed food allergy that started w hot spot/rash/itch
Drs thought was flea or grass not diet
Almost killed her giving her chicken n rice after she developed GI issues

Would say go with a different brand and protein
Something w fewer ingredients
Honest Kitchen is good brand w no recalls too

I feed my senior small dogs, one is 14, the other 11, Fromm Family and Purina ProPlan.
They do well on both.

Fromm has a great selection with lots of different protein sources, some grain free and some with grains but no wheat or corn.

The ProPlan also comes in a lot of different varieties, though most are Rx only.

Chicken Soup has been good for us. I alternate between the Mature and Weight Control variety.

Taste of the Wild lamb (recommended for seniors) with added either baked chicken or browned ground beef. Plus broth. The big guy gets added veggies for bulk because I'm trying to slim him down.
