Poor Lexie. She came to us very thin and with severe heartworms. Her eyes were the saddest that we had ever seen. Her treatment was risky and even gave her a seizure, but she survived. We all fell in love with her and she was the official "office dog" for a while. It was going to take a very special family to adopt her and we thought that we had found it. Unfortunately, we were wrong and the family kept her a short time and gave her away (even though this is against our policy). She escaped from her new owner and was found roaming the highway in Alabama limping and with bloody paws. The new owner opted not to even claim her. We have her back now, but she is depressed and would do better in a foster home (she prefers to be inside and is terrified of thunder storms - and the refuge is next to the reservation, where bombs are always going off). She has been through so much. If you can help Lexie, please call Laurie at 850-685-0288.
It's so good of you to post the need for Lexie here. I hope she finds a stable home where she can relax, learn to trust, and feel safe. I sent you a private message, but looked up the contacts for Aussie Rescue on American Kennel Club - akc.org afterward:

Thanks for your hard work on this ..... we will get going on this right away ...
I see Border Collie in that beautiful girl! People such as the orginal adopters amaze and sadden me. It's as if they don't have any sense of karma...a conscious...or whatever you wish to call it. If she has any bit of Border Collie in her you many try looking at Border Collie Rescue They have regional rescues. Plus the vet (Dr. Nicholas Carter) that heads up this website is fabulous! I've read his works and seen him on tv. He goes into great detail about BC's under Question's on the home page. Then click on The Book of Border Collie.
People SO need to be aware of working dog's needs and that they have needs beyond sitting around. Hugs and kisses from us to her. We'll keep her in our thoughts.
Folks, I'm sorry - I'm going to have to close and lock this thread.
Although we are all animal lovers and want to find all the dogs a home we just can't have any ads or soliciting except in the Classifieds on City Data...not my rules!
I appreciate everyone's contribution, but you'll need to take any further information swapping private...thank you!
Sam
