If you feel moved you should donated those items to that person and dog!
When we donate it is for the feeling we get of being a good person for doing a good act...not for the thanks. We've done exactly what you are wanting to do. Our group we volunteer with offers to alter homeless pepole's pets for free (through our Spay it Forward program) and then my partner and I donated 2 months of food to a particular couple. We didn't deliver it...others did and just told them it was donated by some caring people.
What group do you belong to? Do they have chapters across the US? Even though I'm on a tight budget with all my furbaby's medicines, I would like to help.
We volunteer for a group called Volunteers for Animal Welfare (VAW) here in OKC. VAW has the SPOT Clinic which stands for Stop Pet Over-Population Today. We've been around since 1974. There are no other chapters and we run off of grants and donations.
Our Spay it Forward program helps people who may not otherwise be able to get their pet altered. Anyone can purchase a Spay It Forward card for $35.00 that will cover the cost of a cat or dog altering. You can either give it to a qualifying family (family income has to be under $35,000) or allow VAW's SPOT Clinic to help out a person or family in need that they know about. It's a wonderful program that is helping our community families and individuals that are struggling to get by...BUT yet promotes and helps them be responsible owners!!!!!

Here, here! I plan to! I get my check this Saturday! I drove by today and saw them still there and got a look at the man who lives in it, but couldn't see much. HE stopped to pet his dog and check what it looked like a cell phone. At first, I wondered bout that but I"m not going to assume anything yet. I was told to knock on his door and ask him if it was ok with him to give him some dog food, toys, and stuff. I know many people living out of their cars often have to be very wary of people approaching their cars. Make sense.
Cool! That person living in his car may have a phone b/c that is the way he is able to stay in contact with his family. Maybe it is his only affordable bill since he no longer has a housing payment. You are doing you GOOD deed mostly for the pet. To some that may sound wrong.
I'm going to check local. I don't know why I haven't already but I guess your words moved me. I have been very interested in fostering a dog but with my boy's medicine expenses I just can't make that comittment. BUT I can afford an extra 40 lb bag of food. Thanks everybody....this is such a great animal lover site.
Jessiegee, some rescue groups pay all expenses for dogs in foster care, so all you'd be donating would be time, care and love. Many times there are more dogs than there are available foster homes, so it's worth asking a group if they'd pay expenses if you provide the home. Just a thought....

Leorah - I didn't know that. I'm going to check our local groups this weekend. My dog has heart problems but if I fostered an older dog he should be ok. Thanks again!!
Jessie, that's so encouraging that it moved you as well. Whether you decide to help out someone who needs help taking care of their dog or foster one yourself, I am excited for you and continue to let us know how things go. We are like a animal family here. Welcome to the clan!
I will do the same. I've been purposely driving by everyday and I see him there so I anticipate I'll be able to report to you guys in a week or so when I get the chance.

Having some form of communication is a must for them and I'm sure all he has is maybe a pay as you go phone....all he does is top it up when he runs out of minutes. The rescue that I volunteer with here in London help homeless peoples pets and once I fostered a little doggie while the owner was in Rehab. Personally I'd live in a camper with my dogs if I had to as I can't imagine ever giving them up.
