The ex-in laws have a 19 year old who moved out of the house and left her dogs, the dauchsund ended up dying from heartworm as no one was willing to take him to the vet, and the pit bull was playing too hard on cement, ended up ripping his pad up and can barely walk.
IMO the parents haven't educated this girl about the responsibilities of owning and caring for a dog. It's sad that the animals pay the price for people's ignorance.

A few weekends back, I had to pull a tree off of my neighbor's dog at 5am...they didn't hear her yelping when the tree fell on her, and they're adults .
Sorry to hear about your ex-in law dogs, truly disgusting .
Sometimes I wish I was oblivious to what I see people do with their dogs .
Its sad because, some people should not let their kids have them. Then the parents get p----sed , the kid leaves home (for a year or so, till they ran out of $$-lol) and the dog suffers.
I hate to even read this! Pathetic people. This needs to be taught starting in kidnergarten. They need to have a topic thruout elementary school on the respect and care of the family pets and all Gods creatures!
When people acted ethically (Victorian era) children were taught to care for small pets and worked up to large pets like horses. How pets were treated was an indication of social upbringing and status. The Amish come closest to caring for animals properly. There should be a pet offender list and those people forbidden from coming within a certain distance of any domestic animal.
How many people see these poor animals as "objects" and not living creatures Over and over again, I see people who want that adorable little kitten or puppy...but then oh wait! They grow up and they actually require some love and care...and unfortunately, these people are not willing to make the effort.

Exactly. And kids are spoiled, dump the poor animals on the parents (in this case who were negligent) ...And at the kill shelter here, SO many poor puppies are left at the pound after the novelty wears off- they should create a fine system, make the parents pay 500.00 every time they bring back a poor dog to be destroyed.

Well, I don't know about that... I rather suspect that it depends on the Amish family in question. Whenever I was up in Pennsylvania Amish country, I would see just as many half-starved, lame horses working as those that were clearly well cared for. Also, some Amish farmer have gotten into the puppy mill industry since they regard dogs as livestock (and treatment of livestock varies, see above). The conditions at some of these puppy farms are truly appalling.
where I currently live (temporarily-lol) they had a flea market and it was very disturbing- I know some states must regulate this, but there are alot of farms here and some very poor Appalachians had goats, sheep and ponies stuffed in old trucks, trying to sell them, I was heart broken...I wonder what agency in Tennessee would regulate this? It was in Greeneville Tenn.
