My min. Dachshund gets us up one to three times a night to let her out to pee. She rarely drinks water after 6:00 or 7:00, even though I have it out for her. I have house trained her but she still has accidents. I believe they are accidents and not on purpose because it happens sometimes when she is just sitting or laying down and she seems to not even know it's happening. I think something may be wrong, has anyone had this experience?

There are so many possible causes for incontinence of this type. The fact that she seems to have leakage when resting leads me to think there may be a hormonal component, and this is easily treated with medication. Here are some possibilities that come to mind, and I'm sure there are more that I'm not thinking of. You'll need a veterinarian's help to identify the actual cause.

1. Diabetes
2. Urinary tract infections
3. Small stones in the bladder or urethra (crystals)
4. Hormonal imbalance (spay incontinence)
5. Cushing's
6. Cystitis
7. Kidney failure

Yes, take your pet to the vet to rule out an urinary tract infection or diabetes. you can check for diabetes buy purchasing diastix or keto diastix at the pharmacy, you dip these in urine and it will show glucose in the urine.

usually an antibiotic will clear up a urinary tract infection.

If your pet happens to be a diabetic, i have sent you a message, how old is your pet?

Sounds like urinary tract infection. Antibiotics should help quickly.

Default Bladder stones

We had this happen three years ago with our Bichon. She had previously had crystals in her urine. They thought it was a UTI but when it didn't clear up with antibiotics they took xrays and discovered she had (I think three) stones and had to have surgery. She recovered very quickly.

Thanks again to everyone. I called the vet and they said she should have blood work done. I'm partially thinking it could be because of her background but better safe then sorry. The person that dropped her off at the shelter used to keep her in a crate 13 to 15 hours a day, so I think she is so used to just peeing where she lays that the habit hasen't been fully broken yet but I don't really know...
