No fleas to kill but just to get them clean and smelling better. Dog shampoos are expensive while i can get some Suave or other cheap shampoo. Will Dish Soap work as well? I know Dawn is used for fleas but we use Advantix so don't have fleas. Many thanks.
When my dog was skunked I used a mixture of Peroxide, Dawn Dish Soap and Baking Soda. He was very clean and if that combo didn't do any damage, I wouldn't think just plain dish soap would hurt.
Some dogs are prone to dry skin and it will make them itch. Some dogs are sensitive to the perfumes. I would be sure to rinse rinse and rinse well. Maybe try a small area first, to see how your dog's skin reacts to what ever you would like to try.
My dogs have real short hair, maybe you need to be more careful depending on the type of dog you have. I know they do have different coat types.
I wipe my dogs down with Bio silk. Makes them shiny and they smell good and nothing really gets to the skin.
its a hair finishing product, like a conditioner, it comes in spray or a thicker gel. It smells wonderful.
I found this info from a groomer:
The PH difference between a dog and human is minimal when looking at the number itself: Humans range 5.0 - 6.5 acidity level
Dogs range 6.2 - 8.7
The numbers may seem close but the acid level difference is huge in the results you want to yield from your products.
Generally speaking, a groomer who uses a human grade product on a dog once a year may never see the difference but using a human shampoo every four to six weeks will begin to see a change in the coat and more importantly the skin.
Also, if you want to use human, use baby shampoo, it is more like the ph of the dogs skin.

I use my shampoo.
They also use my conditioner.
We put thier Revolution on and in a few days they get a bath.
human shampoo is MUCH too drying for a dogs skin ph...if you MUST use people shampoo BABY safe only and preferably sulfate free (aveno for example)
also, Dog shampoo is USUALLY a concentrate (Meaning its SUPPOSED to be mixed with water before use *usually 1 part shampo to up to 25 parts water...will go ALOT further (and lather easier)
i bathe my powderpuff girl every 2 weeks dozer once a month (unless otherwise nessicary) and 1 bottle of GOOD shampoo at a 10:1 (10 parts water) dilution is going on 2 years and ive still about 3/4 a bottle left lol.
You can get "mixing bottles" from most human beauty/hair and grooming supply stores (platic bottles with a squirty top with the measurments on the side)
I just use "Dawn" dish soap. That is what they wash off oil covered birds.
