so terribly unfair..... i hope that the entire matter is resolved in their favor soon...... there has to be some way to clear the dog's name......
has there been any sort of fund set up yet?? i will GLADLY contribute to it.....
bailey has a bite record ..... neighbor kids came running at her while pushing some noisy toy .... she was on her lead on MY driveway and 2 people were on my front porch .... i had stepped in the house for a moment to get cold drinks.... she nipped one of the kids on the leg and because the kid was in foster care, he was taken to the urgent care clinic and bailey was reported...... the kids dad told animal control that it was the kid's fault, but no matter.... i came home the next day to a big yellow notice plastered on my front door to bring her shot records into animal control because she had attacked someone......
at least i got to quarantine her at home....... don't think she would have done well AT ALL being quarantined at the pound.......
I will let you know about the fund - I'm doing a lot of work already, but I asked if other members of the dog group I belong to would be willing to set that up. If no one steps up, I will. PayPal should be easy enough to work with.
That's the other thing - this dog SHOULD have been quarantined at home. I don't know why they broke protocol in this case. Nor do I know why the judge ruled with complete disregard for the law.
I cannot send funds, but I want to do something. I think the citizens should be flooding the local court and media with emails of protest about this situation. Can you publish some contact info for us to know who is best to send emails?
This incident took place in Arlington, VA. Any media outlet in the D.C. area that you can google is fair game. In particular, a woman at the Washington Post did an in-depth story on a similar incident that happened in Maryland. Her email address is witta@washpost.com (Her other story; Police Raid Berwyn Heights Mayor's Home, Kill His 2 Dogs - washingtonpost.com ) I have emailed her, but have not gotten a response. Maybe more emails will increase her interest.
I have contacted 2 people at the HSUS, but no one has contacted PETA yet.
We are in contact with the County and AWLA board members.
These would be my choices for emails -- hints to the concerned readers... I suggest cc:'ing the media (at bottom), including the one recommended by Mearth (witta@washpost.com):
Remember that anyone writing should include their full name, address, and telephone number, or the correspondence will be ignored.
Be concise -- flame correspondence will also be ignored as coming from a "crackpot." Just state that you are very concerned, unhappy, disgruntled, etc, and that you will not be satisfied until the dog is returned to its home, the owner given restitution for his expenses, and the police officer receive a formal reprimand -- using your own words, of course. These are just suggestions.
