I'm looking at a bottle that reads for cleansing of minor cuts and scrapes.
Huh. Now I'm really curious. The active ingredient in Benadryl is an antihistamine, which shouldn't really do anything anti-microbe-wise. You couldn't take a picture of what you're using and post it, could you? This is killing me...

I'm sitting here looking at this BACTINE bottle and telling you it's Benadryl!
Brain fart!
OK...My two medical mainstays for minor stuff is BACTINE and Neosporin, both of which my vet recommended
Thanks to all. Just want her to be comfy right now. We are in a leash training phase and have found that the soft leash will make her just want to relax and rest (that is another story).
Cleaned out wounds again. Blood completely congealed and so I believe scabs will follow. Not using Ben or Neo at this point. Just keeping her clean and relaxed until we can vet.
She just went out and the lame leg is not healed but she is definitely not avoiding using it; albeit, still a limp. Vet is making a house call tonight or tomorrow morning. Still, she didn't take her treat when we just went out but she is still eating and drinking but I'm delivering the food to her as she is down... room service for right now.
Again, thanks to the forum for your suggestions, as always... invaluable since we don't have access to the same resources as many others (getting vet care is a challenge).

Both Bactine and Neosporin are safe for dogs, providing the dog is not able to lick off the medication. Both are intended to be topical and not meant to be taken orally. So if you are going to use either, or both, be sure to cover the treated area so your fur baby cannot lick it off.

Especially for us Blondes! I even googled Benadryl so I could post a link and pic for KansasS..and it came up with the Bactine (try it!) and I was still convinced I was right!
And I'm thinking, what is wrong with these people, this stuff has been around for yrs! Duh!
Clean it with warm soap and water and leave it alone. That's what I do with myself, my dogs, etc...although one time I did dermabond my dog's lip. Worked like a charm and there's nary a scar now.
