I went with Innova Large Breed Puppy because it was in my "TOP 5" and was one of the cheapest, but I had faith in it.
TOTW made the cut, but high calcium levels are not good for a pup, esp. a baby German Shepherd. Also they we're getting bad reviews recently.
My Top 5 were Wellness, Innova (including EVO, but too young for it now), TOTW, Blue Buffalo, and Merrick(I think it was).
I would have loved to feed Wellness, but at $60 I was willing to pay $45 for the same 30-35lb bag of Innova.
I'd go with Innova over the others as well. Innnova/EVO are produced by Natura Pet Foods, which has their own factory and does not import vitamins. If you go to their site, they state that they'll never sell out to big chain stores because the employees there are not well-versed in nutrition. I love that about them.
Wellness just announced that many of their products will be outsourced to Diamond processing plants, because it's cheaper. And, they import vitamins from China. I'd never feed that stuff, especially given the price and what you get for that price. And the fact that they sold out to Petco doesn't sit well with me.
TOTW is produced at a Diamond facility, and as I stated, I will never support a company that killed all those pets in that major recall in 2007.
I'm not a fan of Merrick personally, but I think their company is one of the best. They have their own production and packaging facility and know every single item that goes into their foods. My dog doesn't like their products, but I can see why many do. They are truly one of the best.
I'm partial to Champion Pet Foods, which produces Acana and Orijen. They've never had a recall, don't import, and can trace every single ingredient back to their source.
Good luck with your new food and let us know how your pup does on it!

Check out Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul. It is not as high in protein as TOTW, but it is lower in fat than TOTW. More importantly, it costs about $1 per pound. I pay $37.50 for a 35 pound bag.

I agree about TOTW and all Diamond connections. I've heard, "oh it's their ingredients, the people at Diamond just mix it because it's expensive to open a plant to produce dog food....blah blah", but that doesn't sit well with me.
I had no idea about Wellness, which is too bad, but oh well.
Acana and Orijen are good, but they don't sell it around where I shop, plus it is pricey and I am going to be feeding a 100lb dog eventually.

Yeah it is a decent food, but I like Innova. My g/f has her dog on CSftDLS and her coat is real bad. I figure if my dog looks great and everything, why change.

I agree. If your dog looks great and shows no signs of any problems, then there is no reason to change their food. That is the whole point of feeding them good quality kibble in the first place. Innova is a top quality kibble.
As far as your girlfriend's dog is concerned, maybe the dog has a problem with the duck, or beef. Dogs can have allergies to either of these meat sources. If their coat is not soft and shiny, I would definitely be looking for a different kibble. Maybe you can talk her into buying Innova. Blue Buffalo also has a grain-free, beef-free, duck-free kibble that is very good with a low Omega-6 to Omega-3 fatty acid ratio.
