lived here for 2 years and cant wait to leave. I came from the cities to check it out and found the outdoors and 2 months of perfect weather are not worth living here. things i didnt see before moving here.

food....aside from a couple places the food selection and diversity sucks and its about the same price as the cities.... at some of the "better places" they will do things like use frozen veggies

people....all pretty much the same and you can tell they grew up here because they same things...."east high hocky", "bulldogs football"....i mean c'mon. Huge population of "look at my new pick up with cool stickers in the back window and custom muffler"....and these are middle aged men.

Neighborhoods...(i live in congdon)..no energy, can hear pins drop, neighbors arent as approachable as in the cities. cant walk anywhere, have to drive to get anything.

places of interest...aside from the 1 or 2 of "more hip" places, it seems like 1 out of 3 shop fronts are empty or ugly......for this town, the place with energy is the mall where eveything is plastic chain stores and parking lots.

more or less is the same thing as living in a suberb from what i see

Interesting... I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder. I live in Portland and would love to go to Duluth. I spent two week long trips there a few years back to look into a business plan and absolutely loved the place.

Granted the food and microbrew scene won't match Portland (but then no place does), but I found places I enjoyed. Sad to here the Indian place has gone down hill. I thought it was good back when I had visited.

I personally don't want my neighborhood to have "energy". I want it to be quiet, peaceful, and beautiful. Hands down, Duluth has some of the most beautiful neighborhoods of any city I've ever been too.

The number of outdoor activities available easily rivals PDX. If you are used to cold (I grew up in MT and AK), you have year round recreation right at your doorstep. It may be a little gritty, but Duluth has character and history. It most definitely does NOT impress me as being "just like living in a suburb." I've also been to many of the suburbs of the Twin Cities, and to me the comparison is ludicrous!

ya, i didnt mean it looks like a suberb. I just meant that one has to drive everywhere (mostly to the mall) to get things and we are mostly limited to chains and big box stores. I agree with the outdoor stuff and northshore and bwca and all.

I don't think there is anything wrong with supporting your local high school sports teams. You have a lot of staunch supporters of teams down south (e.g., Edina, Bloomington J, Hill Murray etc.) and no one I know of complains about people supporting the rodents oops, sorry Gophers. Why is it surprising Duluth residents would support UMD athletics?

I think Duluth has changed a lot since I moved here. All of Old Downtown has changed with the Sheraton and Condos, Va Bene Bereducci Cafe, Valentinis, Teatro Zuccone (have a beer while watching a movie), Renegade Comedy theater, Carmody's Pub, Dubhlin's Pub, Tycoons Restaurant, and now Duluth 10 is changing the Omnimax and pumping a million bucks into upgrading it into a large screen all digital theater.

The Casino is looking to expand, the Nor Shore Theater will have 10 million in redevelopment coming its way as it was just purchased.

Amsoil Arena (70 million new arena) just opened last year as well. Several new brew pubs are open including Clyde Iron, Duluth Brew is being built down in Canal Park, Fitgers is expanding production, Lake Superior brewing Co. is expanding production, and the local pubs are brewing local micros onsight.

I think Duluth is getting better.

We will be or could be losing the casino, their expansion probably will not happen any time soon.

Duluth will continue to see good times as long as the tourists keep coming back as the local population can not support all of these service sector jobs.
