Gee, I sure hope so. There are six times the number of white people in the country.

I am of ethnic background from a city area. I have come to Duluth actually for school and to live with a relative. Once i came to this town it seemed very pretty. It's surrounded by a lake and it has nice parks and things of that nature. I befriended a guy who was Arab mixed but he looked white. I asked him about the racism issue in this town. And he assured me it wasn't racist. People were mainly stoners and very chill and peaceful.
But if you have been around racism and prejudice your whole life l, you know it's stench anywhere.
And Duluth reeks of it.
This place is full of small Town white people who've actually never really experienced anything outside of their race.
The things they know of minority's are in the news and t.v for them. The few that they do know, aren't what they would consider "black" as a unit.
The ignorance is crazy.
I've rode the bus minding my own business, when a guy wouldn't stop asking me what I am.
"What are you?" He continues trying to guess my ethnicity.
I've been referred to as a colored boy working here before.
The N word has been flown my way as well.
It gets worse as this city is subtle with their prejudice and not always out front with it.
A lot of fake smiles. You get treated like your invisible. A lot of people are skeptical about minorities. But like I said, these are people who are not experienced with races outside of their color.
Some here like to point out that their is a large percentage of native here.
Which is slightly wrong. Because in my eyes a minority cannot be a large percentage.
Since Natives are barely the last of their people anyway.
Of course Other races from bigger cities have come seeking the same thing as me
Education. Some came here cause it was too crazy where they stayed at. So they needed somewhere safe and affordable for their kids.
I've had a white man complain about that to me to my face.
"Their stealing all the welfare" he says.
Yeah like your ass owns or knows what welfare is even like
While working, I've handled a brown lady that was handicapped with one leg. A bunch of white people were standing behind her and also stood back as they watched this lady leave the counter to the door with bags in her hand.
No help. No courtesy. They pretended like she wasn't there. I finally had to help her with the door cursing out the people as I did.
To me it's a very prejudice place.
It's sad too. The ignorance drives people away. Ask anyone black or minority that's lived there they wouldn't admit it at first but it drives anyone of color frustrated.

You seem unhappy. Maybe moving to another area would help? I mean I lived in East side San Jose, Ca. for years and they hated the white man there! I moved to Minnesota and it got better

As a white guy, I don't know. But I worked with a guy who's wife was not white and they had biracial kids. They moved away because of the racism and he had grown up in the area.

I'm always surprised at all these people apologizing for human nature. We, as humans, gravitate toward our own, proven in research many times, thus we will also point out differences in our "groups". But in our current "Bathhousebarry" culture, it is only the whites who are branded as racist. In my experience, most of the hardened racism stems from the "other" groups, who get by with it because of historical injustices that happened over 150 years ago. Just how long does it take some groups to move on.

It's not the absolute number that matters but the ratio. The ratio is what tells the complete story.

No I'm not unhappy this is just called truth no matter how "angry" I seem.
But it's all good though.
I don't hate the white man lol
I hate white attitude. And white prejudice. And judgement
White people are cool. As long as they aren't that.
So I hope you're not cause this is about you then.
But a lot of people up here are ignorant. Prejudice. And it's a subtle prejudice which is the worst of all.
You maybe can't see it cause you haven't experienced it like that before.
