Do Credit Card companies report returned items to the credit bureaus? I was wondering because I was thinking that if you buy something for $500 and make a $500 payment when the next statement comes out, I figured that I could just return the Item and either get a check sent to me for the remaining balance. maybe I could use this tactic to boost my credit score.
They would only report your balance, positive or negative.
If you left the negative balance on your account, it may reduce your overall utilization score. If you have no other credit card balance, this will do nothing.
If you cash it out, you would just have a 0 balance.
