Just watched the garbage truck go by, it's got a robotic arm that grabs the can and dumps it in the truck. 15 years ago there was a guy on the back of the truck doing it manually.

And now that guy is driving a garbage truck instead of tossing cans. What's your point?

That's a rather crude example, but I doubt they spent a lot of time developing it either. Seems like it would be easy to make bot that posts on internet forums; search for topics, interpret the gist of posts, and generate a response.

There was someone driving the truck before. And "driving" will be automated before long.

Nothing wrong with automating any task where it's cheaper to do so, but the pool of viable jobs where humans have a competitive advantage is guaranteed to shrink.

1 employee instead of 2 now. Correct.

I used to think you were at least smart, if a little crabby, but now I'm not so sure. Who was driving the truck before?

Instead of two guys and one truck, you have two guys and two trucks.

Even if that were not true, you've freed up Labor to perform other tasks.

Obviously, you have a serious Skills mismatch or geographical mismatch with Labor.

The sad thing is that even if those 5.8 Million jobs were filled, you're still short 8 Million jobs and the people to work them.

Two guys, two trucks, same garbage load. Less employees needed to do the job. Are you really that dense?

Freed up labor is also known as unemployment. You're sugar coating.

So, your claim is that no new housing developments are taking place?

Consider that each new housing development expands the territory for trucks.

You ignored this:

America has near record 5.8 million job openings - May. 10, 2016

Again, you either have a serious Skills mismatch (meaning you don't have enough people with the right skills for those jobs) or a geographic mismatch (meaning people are refusing to relocate to take open jobs).
