I have a job like they do. I just work for government so I don't screwed like private sector employees do.

1/2 of nyc housing stock is rent stabilized as well as most at those income levels have subsidized health insurance . that alone can add up to the equal of 12k or more a year to a couples income . there are a whole lot of other things they may qualify for too . we have lots of affordable housing developments ear marked for folks in the median income range that excludes anyone higher .

effectively in one way or another subsidy makes those median incomes the equal to larger incomes .

Who determines what is fair? And how is fairness defined? Should people pay 10%? 25%? 80%?

Why not have a minimum tax and then allow people to pay more as they see fit. Just like contributing to a charity.

As for me, while I realize the necessity of taxes, I also see the corruption, fraud, waste & abuse that money is used for and I think taxes are too high.

So I suppose it's all a matter of perspective.

They can all write checks.

10% of what I make goes to Charity, I don't demand that everyone else in my tax bracket pay to those charities because it's my choice.

we had a home in the poconos we were going to retire to .

but once we thought about the fact there was no public transportation if we couldn't drive , few specialists , few hospitals , little to do all winter , no where to work for anything but low wages if you wanted to , 1/2 of nyc housing stock is rent stabilized , etc etc , we realized we already live in one of the the best places .

been retired since july and every day here is filled doing something else . yeah it is costly but if you can do it worth every penny . besides this is where our kids and grand kids are making it priceless .

ny has some nice perks too.

for all purpose most of us will have no inheritance taxes , social security is not taxed , the first 20k in pension is not taxed , federal and local pensions are not taxed regardless of amounts . real estate taxes in the 5 boroughs are low .
I hope you have a Vitamin D machine. Vitamin D is very essential when old!

We need a SALARY CAP in the US......

I agree with the articles but I have mixed opinions. Here in NYS you have millionaires with deep pockets, than you have millionaires with no so deep pockets. The millionaires with deep pockets don't mind paying their fair share, but small time millionaires, folks who own small business, or own a property or three will be hurt by higher taxes. Overall I do agree with the article. I would like to say is that Governor Cuomo JR, is not like his father who was a big more progressive. Governor Cuomo SR, was great for NY, I remember meeting him as a child. All I heard was great things about him from family, friends acquaintances, rich and poor alike.

Cuomo JR represents the liberal wing of the Wall Street Syndicate. He does his biddings for the liberal elite in NY and in NYC, and no it does not involve raising taxes, because liberal rich and wealthy folks also benefit from lower taxes. Also NY state via NYC has attracted plenty of wealthy individuals in the past decade who either buy property or start a start-up in hip Brooklyn which both receive tax breaks or low tax. Don't get me wrong, this brings in money and revenue into the state coffers, but not in the long run. Cuomo has done things where he allowed politicians will be able to run with as much money as they want, as well as giving more tax breaks to wealthy. He even wanted to close down that factory which built the gun that helped killed those kids in Sandy Hook CT. The factory employees hundreds of people which keeps the local economy afloat. IF the factory closes the town in Central NY called Ilion will be in trouble. Cuomo is no good for NY. Cuomo is for the rich and wealthy and not for average Joes and Jane's of NY.

Uh, yes it does. They say they need to pay higher taxes. They can lead by example and start doing that RIGHT NOW. But they don't... do they?

I paid over 42K in federal income taxes last year. I think I benefitted society enough. But since YOU want to pay more... to benefit society and all that... start today! YOU TOO CAN LEAD BY EXAMPLE!

Send your check to this address:

And I presume you'll also stop taking any deductions, right?
