I've been reading that the number of students interested in IB has been on free fall. Why is that so. I find IB to be very important even if you are not intending on working at bank or any other financial institutions. Personally everyone should know how the market works and what do to with their money and law. With they had a IB/JD program

mod note: as per OP, IB here means Investment Banking

If its investment banking, it's because the hours and work are brutal.

Is investment banking even still a "thing"? I was under the impression, admittedly I don't pay that much attention, that many of those firms had gone out of existence during the recession and those which remained had sloughed employees off like rain runs off a duck's back.

I think it might start to get back up. Lots of investment banking companies wanted to interview my kid but she only wanted to work in SF. But in gene al they pay less than high tech companies. But the swing might be back after this election.

I would guess OP meant College Students / majors in Investment Banking.

Just a pendulum swing out of favor since 2008, LOTS of unemployed, experienced Investment Bankers.

It is certainly not an EZ trade to make a living and less so to get the perks for advancement. One has to have a significant knowledge background and willing to EXERCISE 'risk judgement' (several times / day). That is not enticing to 'students' with 'entitlement' / and 'start-up' / entrepreneur in their skewed vision.

IMHO, colleges have REALLY done a huge disservice by changing focus to "entrepreneur" rather than business school essentials. Gonna create a lot more 'FAILURES', as business basics / accounting / balance sheets / banking and valuation are quite crucial to MOST business successes.

The true Entrepreneurs will filter to the top, those students 'schooled' as such... will be unemployable and uneducated in the skills required to support a successful business and evaluate business decisions to increase valuations and cash flows.

Not everyone is cut out as an Entrepreneur, or an Investment Banker. (very few indeed)

I'm also wondering what an IB/JD program would consist of (besides undeserved massive profits for the school).

Finance degree...

'Potential job titles: broker, investment banker or financial consultant. Preferred qualifications: A bachelor's degree with a major in finance, accounting, economics or business. Advanced positions generally require an MBA.'

Many will require a PhD or a more rigorous Masters program than a typical MBA.
