There is a lot of money to be made in purchasing politicians.

Two reasons I can not for the life of me understand why people think uncontrolled capitalism is a good idea.

#1 It is undemocratic. Capitalism and democracy are just not compatible. Capitalism just becomes who has the money to buy the most politicians. Voting is irrelevant in a capitalistic society.

#2 Capitalism is only good for the people in the top 1%, and for a certain segment of the bottom 99% who dream of someday becoming a part of the 1%. Even though the chances of that happening are virtually zero. Capitalism benefits such a small number of people.

You don’t have to purchase politicians to keep from being poor in this country. This isn’t some 3rd world dictatorship.

They have their reward here in this life- that's why Jesus stated how very difficult it is for wealthy folks to go to heaven. They worship their wealth and lifestyle. How hard it will be for most of them to die, and not be able to take it with them.

That has actually been argued a fair amount here on CD.

The problem is that the pie is expanding quite nicely but average middle class & working class people have not seen much of that expansion. You have to be in the top 10-12% to really feel the benefits. Top 20-30% are at least keeping up with inflation or a little bit ahead.
The middle and working class aren’t seeing much of the expansion because they aren’t responsible for it. Do you think that they should be given something that they didn’t create?

Wages have decoupled as a share of GDP; and employees share of profits are at all time lows.
Nice try.

We don’t live in a Democratic society, we live in a republic
Quote:
In American English, the definition of a republic refers specifically to a form of government in which elected individuals represent the citizen body[2] and exercise power according to the rule of law under a constitution

Funny you type this from a computer with high speed internet access inside of an air conditioned home with a fridge full of food and a closet full of clothes with a functioning car full of gas parked outside. Sounds to me capitalism was very good to you and not just the 1%

Typical American attitude, cry because we all don't have a mansion and a Ferrari. So we want to envy and punish the people that do.

Who do you think buys all the goods and services to make the 1% rich? So the poor, middle and working class create wealth, should they be given something for it? Do you think the Walmart heirs are working hard for their money? They hit the genetic lottery.

IMO it works well for the upper 10%.

Capitalism for the most part needs central controls.

In AZ out governor attracted Uber to test its new autonomous cars, saying he'd back off on regulation and oversight.

And you know how that went...
