The IRS lost our e-filed 2018 tax return after it had been accepted. After months of not getting our refund, we got through and found out they lost it.
They then gave us an address to mail the tax return to and told us it would be processed quickly. We did so (and had it require a signature) and got the confirmation of it being received. Waited months again and no refund. They claimed they never got it. I told them that it was singed for and gave them the name who signed. Their response was that they had no idea who that was. It seemed nobody could help us, they said to mail it again.
My frustrated husband reached out to the state senators office and they handled the situation immediately. We had our refund in 2 weeks.

How can efiled returns be lost?
That makes you wonder their computer system is out of whack?
There are too many returns received by the IRS mail room, they just dont have manpower to sign each ,sometimes the post office does not have the manpower to scan everyone of them arriving at the local office.
Another way is to mail them a refund check of a nickel or $1,as the first thing they do when they receive your paper return is to separate your check from your return, and deposit in their bank account.
When they do that, you wil know from your bank account and make a front and back copy of that check and keep it in your file.
