Indian argues that more green cards and H1b visas should be passed out to combat the economic crisis rather than protectionist policies in the new stimulus bill.

What INDIA wants and what We need are not entirely congruent at this time. When we restore full employment then we should consider immigrating personal. Not before.

It is true that protectionist measures only hurt our companies. This debate is entirely a special interest debate.

For more H1b: Good for business, good for the people in developing countries etc.

Against more H1b: Helps protect your labor from cheaper skilled labor.

I would argue that I would rather see more h1bs in this country rather than the company just outsource the job. At least with the H1b they are forced to spend their money in the USA (which creates jobs).

Yeah, it's not like they can come here and get paid less. They come here to get paid more. And then they spend their dollars here.

The Soviet Union had protectionist policies and had government assurances of "full employment." I think you know how their economic experiments worked out in the end...

not necessarily. They can accept lower wages because they live very frugally and send a lot of the money back home. I have seen 4 h1bs share a 1 bedroom apartment. How can an American compete with that?

People from the India will do anything to rationalize and justify why the U.S. should open the flood gate and just let everyone from the Third World come here. Of course they don't want to stay in their own impoverished country. Think about all the talented Americans that will never see the inside of an Ivy League college because they had the missfortune to be born white, and in this country. Students with impeccable G.P.A.'s. Diversity is the primary reason why our schools let in so many immigrants, not because they have so much more talent than the natives born here.

I think it's a great idea to lay off millions more American citizens and hire thirdworlders to take their places. Then we get give the jobless citizens more unemployment checks ..... heck, that's free money, why don't we double their checks? And then after they've run through that, we can put them on welfare. Our citizens don't really want to work 18 hour days without benefits, they're too lazy, so putting them on welfare will be the best solution for everyone.
