Do they really think "The Shack" will fly? It sounds like a nightclub or honky tonk to me! Maybe they ought to try going back to what they used to do best- selling electronics that nobody else had to sell. I recall when you could go there to buy things like resistors, capacitors, circuit boards, home alarm systems and TV antennas that NOBODY else had. Now the place looks like just another mobile phone and TV store. I cannot tell the difference between "The Shack" and the electronics section of the local Wal*Mart these days!

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) -- Consumer electronics retailer RadioShack Corp. will roll out a new ad campaign later this week, hoping customers will latch onto "The Shack."

The company, which says the nickname has long been used by associates, customers and investors, wants its brand to have the same familiarity as other businesses such as Coke and FedEx.

My guess is they have changed for the same reason you don't see many electronic stores that sell partts etc any more;they all went under from poor sales. There isn't much demand for a stand alone electronic parts store anymore really.

There is for some of the things RS used to sell. I was looking for a security system for somebody only last year. They don't sell them anymore. Had to buy it off Ebay.

I bought some stuff over at Radio Shack... I don't think of them as an electronics store, I think of them more as a convenience store... Walmart is much farther away then Radio Shack and they stock about the same stuff... its a more of a matter of convenience then providing anything "different"...

I really like Radio Shack. If you go into Radio Shack, you have a higher chance of actually getting what you're looking for. And they have a lot of neat, quirky stuff.

I have been a Radio Shack shopper since the 1970s. I don't go there often but they have their place. I liked them a bit more when they sold more hobbyist stuff - since that is what I am. I liked it when they sold Realistic as a brand. Some things, like their compact Minimus 7 speakers were surprisingly good.

I think "The Shack" could work - if they can make the stores more hip. There is still a Radio Shack almost everywhere - and I'd rather go there for small stuff than Best Buy - with its crazy high prices and idiots for sales people.

It all depends on sells as to what they still sale just like most things now days. I would bet its because their alarm systems sales dropped off tot eh pit is was not profitable for the store space taken. If you google you can proably find parts in non-store front businesses. Running a store front business is very different from a non-store front such as the internet provides. Many times its not stupid but a necessity to drop certain low sales items for more sales items. Marketing changes all the time.It would be stupid to keep items that don't sale taking up space in the store as consumers wants change.

Lets see the last time I went to Radio Shack was to get a battery I could not find for my Verizon backup box for my FIOS. Other then that I do not shop at Radio Shack. I could have ordered the battery from Verizon for about $10.00 more, but "the shack" was around the corner.

My best friend works at a Radio Shack in California. And I honestly don't she how she makes it. They have sales quotes to make daily, weekly and monthly and they get commisson on most if their sales. If you are an outstanding worker and bust your butt, never late, take all shifts- but your sales slow down due to people not coming in a buying *economy* you get canned!

I have no use for Radio Shack at all. From where I'm from, RS prices are usually more expensive than Wal-Mart and Best Buy...... I only go there when there is something that I really, really need now and it's near closing time for most retail stores because RS is right up the street from me.

Amazingly, you hit it for the same reasons I do.

It's right up the street.
It's going to have what I need.
It's open when I need it to be.
and, I really need something RIGHT NOW.

Sounds like they're exploiting a niche, or something.
