We will be flying into Edmonton next month and driving to Jasper. We noticed that the West Edmonton Mall is on the way over there. Would it be worth a stopover? We're not really interested in the shopping (live in California, have enough selection of stores at home). However, we thought it might be good to grab lunch and quickly check out the enormity of the place. We've been to the Mall of America in Minneapolis before. Is this a similar experience?
WEM is different from MOA. MOA is a big square on 4 (?) levels with department stores as anchors. WEM is on 2 levels and spread out. I wouldn't shop there since you'll find the prices 1 1/2 x what you pay here in CA. The nice thing about MOA is there isn't the sales tax so it's a great place to shop!
When you fly into Edmonton you'll be taking Anthony Henday Drive to get on the Highway to Jasper, so it's worth the stop to stretch your legs, walk around and have lunch.
Are you talking about western Edmonton mall or downtown mall?
If you visited here 8 years ago then you will enjoy here as most of thing has been changed.

This thread is all about the West Edmonton Mall, the largest mall in North America. It is worth a visit as it isn't just about the shopping. There is a full size ice rink, an indoor amusement park, an indoor water park, among other many attractions.

It's just a darned mall. I'll allow that it's a very large mall, but it's just a mall in the end. I don't get the attraction of such places.
I was looking on their website at the family multi-pass. Does this multi-pass include ALL of the attractions at the mall? The website is not clear as to what it includes.
The Multi-Play Pass is valid at:
West Edmonton Mall parks and attractions, including Galaxyland Amusement Park, World Waterpark, Sea Life Caverns,
Sea Lions’ Rock, Santa Maria, Ice Palace, Professor Wem’s Adventure Golf, Ropes Quest, and Ed’s Rec Room, during regular
operating hours.
It is not valid at Seniors Skate or any other exclusive or private events.
The Multi-Play Pass is valid for:
Only the person whose name is printed on the Pass. Anyone who falsifies, forges, counterfeits, alters or tampers with
the Pass, willfully allows another person to use it, or impersonates the true cardholder will be prosecuted.
Five days, three months, six months, or one year from the date of purchase, depending on the type of Pass purchased.
The Family Multi-Play Pass is valid for:
Up to four members of an immediate family. All names must be listed at the time of Pass purchase. No additions,
changes, or exceptions will be made once the sale has been finalized. Maximum of three additional family members
can be added at the time of purchase. No changes or add-ons are allowed once the order has been processed and finalized.
The Pass entitles a cardholder to visit any of the parks and attractions listed above in a single day. Limitations are as follows: one round
of mini-golf per day at Professor Wem’s Adventure Golf, one admission per day to Ice Palace (skate rentals not included), one Sea Lion Show
per day at Sea Lions’ Rock, two games of bowling (including shoe rental) and one admission per day to Ropes Quest.
The Pass entitles each cardholder to one armband per day. An armband is required for admittance to all attractions. To obtain one,
a cardholder must present his or her card at a park or attraction’s designated ticket booth. Proof of identification may be required.
